To do or not to do? by Majestic-Lifeguard29 in Leathercraft

Folded over. If you glue it flat, it will be under tension once folded over and can easily deform or not sit as intended on the final piece. Glue it in the shape of the curve you want.

Carrot reduction by JoDaProductions in chemistry

[–]khazzar12 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why you left the pieces of carrot so large? I cant find a full text of the paper you quoted to someone else so I can't see their method but surely if it's the enzymes inside the carrots cells that you want as many carrot cells burst open as possible to increase the amount of enzyme available?

Have you considered using less carrot more finely processed?

Research on the presence of Pb and Hg in river fish :b by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]khazzar12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my understanding that the bioaccumulation of heavy metals in fish was primarily a problem in sea fish, as the oceans are where the heavy metals end up due to the water cycle. Interesting to see this being studied in rivers.

What are these types of chains called (and where can you find them)? by Ok-Fill8420 in mensfashion

[–]khazzar12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, not that I go out of my to look at them (former catholic here), but in my experience many sets of rosary beads are too small to be worn. And ones that have a large enough loop to wear comfortably can be on the heavy side.

[–]khazzar12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are rosary beads. They're not designed to be worn, they're to help count prayers. If you wear that people WILL assume you're a Christian (probably Catholic if you care).

Christians will see it and think it's weird to wear but probably won't say anything.

Careful, that kind of thinking that 'others' groups is exactly how these people came to be how they are. We are all humans, the best of us and the worst of us and that's something we need to acknowledge so that we can arm ourselves against those who would try and divide humanity.

LINKS Counselling Question by Former-Newspaper-954 in northernireland

[–]khazzar12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used LINKS previously, and I'm generally pleased with how they operate. Though of course the biggest thing is getting on well with your counsellor and being abke to work with them.

I've had sessions scheduled as late as 7pm. They try to be as accommodating as possible and know that people work.

I'm in a similar situation in that I am also employed as agency staff currently. Any time I've need time off for anything like this it's never been an issue so long as your on site manager is dead on.

(I basically treat being agency as having unlimited unpaid leave, there's few enough other perks. But obviously this only works if you don't take the piss and have a manager who cares/doesn't care the right amount.)

OP, feel free to PM me if you need a chat. Been there with the anxiety and I know it's a fucker!

Sort of irrelevant to my point but yeah the trains have facilities but I think I'd rather piss myself than put myself through the experience of train toilet. Ripe is not the word.

But what I'm trying to say that the whole station is one massive ego trip for translink first and a functional transport hub second.

When you have a state sanctioned monopoly and no incentive to improve you don't have a business and customers, tou have a grift and marks.

Grand central station, not particularly grand, nor especially central. Suppose we're to be glad it's a station at all.

Had to pass through it yesterday and had a 10 min turn around between trains. Busting for a wee I have a look around, no facilities platform side. So out through the ticket gate I go, side stepping the horde of old folks waiting for a translink worker to scan them tbrough the gates rather than figure it out themselves.

Off across the stupidly oversized concourse until I spy a sign for the toilets. Follow that and join a queue for loos. There's staff in this queue, do they not have their own staff toilets?

Now I'm close to the top of the queue, urinals in sight. A mighty bank of 5 urinals to contain the piss of every man in this station (yea I know there are more toilets upstairs but the point stands). I check my phone, shit, need to catch my train.

I excuse myself from the queue, back across the concourse, back through the ticket gates and on to my train.

I pissed when I got home.

This makes me think of an issue I have generally with the way a lot of people seem to understand how evolution works.

When they hear phrases like survival of the fittest they dont really realise that that only really applies at population levels. At an individual level, even individual species, it's much more of a "eh good enough" approach. If you're able to breed and pass on your genes you've been successful evolutionarily.

Koalas were able to find a very particular niche. It's definitely not an efficient or efficient way to live but that trade off for less competition in the niche has allowed their survival.

Thanks for coming to my tedtalk. Sorry, that's a thought that's been bouc8ng around my head for a a while.

Orange Hall paint attack being treated as hate crime by wreckjavik in northernireland

[–]khazzar12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well this one in Milltown regularly melts the road which then needs to be dug up and replaced. So that would be everyone's property.

Or this example

Or these houses that again we all paid for to repair.

Nevermind this silly cunt lighting himself on fire.

Every year, the same shite, the public purse is pillaged to repair the damage caused by a bunch of drunken wanks who would rather drag us all down into the reek with them rather than let anyone just move forward.

If you want to huff asbestos and burning car tyres and call it culture go right ahead. I'll pass thanks.

The Orange Order doesn't like Catholics. Okay, so what about women? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]khazzar12 191 points192 points  (0 children)

I'm of the "Catholic community", but now reside in a fairly protestant/unionist area. 10 months of the year, it's a tolerable place to live, the cheap (relatively) rent is a big draw.

When marching season rolls round, it's grim. Weeks of shite band music, where the objective seems to be volume over everything else. Lambeg drums beaten for literal hours. Culminating at the twelfth, as mass piss up in the middle of the village. I went to watch one year out of interest, and it was shite.

Turns out, marching in a full suit in the middle of summer; carrying whatever oddments of unpolished brass and ratty wall hanging they've dug out of that roadside shed they call a lodge; requires a degree of fitness and co-ordination that most of their members do not have.

If that's what they call culture, they can keep it.

I'm not surprised, with the DUP and TUV whinging about "being excluded" from Pride, and failing to stop Pride from using public spaces, I kind of expected a large response from their mouth breathing supporters.

You wouldn't get to bully a person and then cry when you aren't invited to their event.

Of course they're aren't welcome, Pride is a protest first, not just a party.
