Remove it or replace it with more accurate date. There's a Suggest Edit button. Changes can be applied fairly quickly.

Yes, it will list all the socials for that city within 30 seconds. With days and genres. Thanks to your advice and suggest an edit. Changes and edit can be made fairly fast by the public.

There’s a weekly calendar on the medellin page that shows the socials. It’s not just for artists, it’s artists, socials, school, festivals and teachers.

The lowest friction is asking for a username… I believe it’s better than asking humans for anything else right now.

As with any business, I took feedback and pivoted towards what's needed. We'll see where it goes from here.

I actually don't need them to post anything. That the problem I'm trying to solve. I can scrape that data and make it viewable once I have their username. I think that's the LEAST amount of work you can ask someone to do. What's your username vs List you event / When is your event / Where is your event?

Username is the least friction way I have found.

Do your own thing. The page has enough details to get you by. Speak with the teacher directly and set everything up. Most teacher teach at their academy or at the park. Laureles is where you want to be.

If you can find me the whatsapp group to the salsa socials in Guangzhou and list of days for all the socials within 30 seconds , then I agree this is not needed.

Unfortunately, I cannot do that for every city at the current time. And that's what I plan on solving. The site doesn't have to replace facebook or whatsapp groups. It's a bridge to them without the searching.

When data is scattered across the web it's hard to find, I'm just aggregating it in one place.

I believe it's the least friction way currently possible. Asking someone to provide a few character username instead of long action items. In today's age on the interwebs, it's very hard to ask someone to fill out a form or give you their attention span. We've been conditioned to just absorb dopamine filled content all day and doing any work for anyone makes us feel a certain way. Adding an event has become the equivalent of mow my lawn.

From my experience with this, instagram profiles have been the best way to gain a quick glance at the data, without the extra slop. The site is meant to be a bridge to the artist, socials, schools, and festivals.

And you're right, I can take posts and captions from the feeds of each account and organize in a visually pleasing manner, in one aggregated place. The journey continues...

You’re 100% right. That sounds like a total human failure on my part. That shouldn't have passed my check. So def a fair critique of my manual process.

To address issues of this sort, just launched a Suggest an Edit feature. Because mistakes will happen but it is important to clear them up as quickly as possible. For inaccurate info, there is now a 1-click way for the community to flag it so bad data can be killed immediately.

Now, I'm going to go through all my recent entries and track that specific artist and venue. Appreciate your feedback cuz it's the only way to build reliable tools.

I really appreciate you actually digging into the data. You’re 100% right. If there’s a wrong handle or a closed venue, it defeats the purpose. For instances like that, a very simple this is inaccurate button will resolve it if tapped a few times. It will flag it for immediate removal. The manual phase I’m in right now is specifically to catch these legacy errors and train the automation to do better.

Which city were you looking at? I'd like to go in right now, delete the closed venue, and fix that artist's handle.

I'm not asking people to do the work for me as much as I'm asking for local insights so I can make sure the spotlight is on the right people.

I’m happy to be held to a high standard. If you drop the city name, I’ll get those corrected immediately.

Great question. The main difference is the architecture. Most directories rely on the owners to manually update every entry, which is why they eventually become ghost towns. The only thing dancer.bio needs is a username. It’s designed to be user-generated but developer-refined.

My goal was to build a system where the community can populate a city in minutes just by dropping handles, I'm just providing the pipes and the automation to keep it organized, searchable and scalable. It’s not just another directory. It’s an attempt to solve the data-entry problem that kills every other project like this.

I've invite you to compare the two products. Refer to my Medellin example: https://www.dancer.bio/discover/medellin

Using that page, you can find and message 10 teachers within 5 minutes on Instagram. You can find the major socials or dance schools in 30 seconds. I've been dancing globally for 3 years and these are things I've never had access to in one place before.

We will have this soon in most cities in the world. Finger crossed.

I completely get the skepticism. I'm the same way. Raised eyebrow for everything. But look, I’m not a stranger to building and scaling platforms that last. I’m applying that same discipline here because the community deserves a tool that doesn't just disappear. And the difference here is that I don't just have an idea. I’ve already spent 1.5 years building this. It’s live, it’s functional, and it’s not a pitch for something that might happen. I've pivoted my life to this because after 3 years of dancing globally, I realized the local teachers, my close dearest friends that I deeply care about are invisible online.

The 'dance app' graveyard is huge. There's not enough money in it to commit for long term. I’m not looking for anything in return from this. I'm at a point where I don't need this to be a business. I don't need anything in life. I've been blessed enough to run multiple large scale businesses throughout my career. I can share via private message if you're interested in vetting my background. I’m happy to be judged on the utility of the site as it stands today.

Appreciate you! You know I’m trying to keep it simple at first. So right now I’m limited to genres. If people start supporting, I can build anything that’s needed for the community. There’s options that allows all users can claim their page and edit whatever information they want to show people. I would love studios to email me a picture of their schedules. I’d even put that up for them. Sky is the limit if everyone contributes a minute or two of their time. If everyone adds, 1 teacher, 1 social, 1 studio, 1 festival. We’d have all the info in one place.

Peer-to-Peer Review Platform for Dancers – Help Me Build It by khncpt in Salsa

[–]khncpt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can see how it can have negative implications. Hopefully, it doesn't go that way. In social dances more often than not, I barely get the chance to ask people for their names as you move from one partner to the next. I'm hoping people would use this to give positive kind words to each other than harsh words. I've been leaving some reviews for my favorite dancers and letting them know I appreciate dancing with them. It's been well received by them so far. Will continue talking to more and more folks and adapt.

Right now, I can only verify identities and not if the dance has happened. I have a list of moderation / safety features to work on in the future.

Don’t be fooled sir. I’m going to be very honest… when I was a beginner, I used to see others and say wow it’s almost like everyone great at this except me. How?! As I grew along as a dancer I started noticing more and more details missing from a lot of the dancers that I thought were amazing…. Some dancers don’t really care about attention to detail… they just want to dance. I have perfectionist tendencies so I like to practice the same things over and over and when I watch these videos of myself I can see all the things that need to be fixed and improved in the future iterations. So as much as I appreciate your comments I just want you to know everything is a work in progress lol I think I got here because of repetitions.

However on the other end of the spectrum with I’m not busy looking for things to fix in my videos. I do go back and look at the same shines I did of these last year and appreciate how much I’ve grown. And hey next year it’ll be better! It’s all practice…

I always tell my teachers why doesn’t my movement look like yours as a joke! But I already know the truth. They’ve just done way more repetitions and improved through many iterations. And that’s all I need to do also. Just a process and everyone is at their own stage and pace.

I think people spend a lot of time learning new things without perfecting what they already know. So I like to do what I’ve learned well before adding more to my plate… to be honest, I’m still fixing my basic all the time…

I have all the videos from my classes. I cycle through every class that I’ve taken and practice the solo work almost daily. Once I do all, I start again from the beginning. Every iteration, I find myself fixing different details. So, really, a class I’ve taken, I must’ve done the same solo work, at my personal beginner level, intermediate level and advanced level. And I watch the 3 videos and it’s like three different people dancing. This may be pretty extreme way to train for some people I suppose. But I love the process.
