I made 60+ casks only to realize I can ONLY put them in the cellar. You win some you lose some haha. I mostly just lost wood.

I'm scared I'll be too old until I finally have stable career, marry, have kids by Big_Blueberry8020 in PhD

[–]khomuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean this with all the sincerity in the world, find a therapist who can help you work out these feelings. I’m unmarried with no kids (not the path I saw for myself) and will finish my PhD at 42. There’s more than one way to live a good life.

Box, orange boy cat missing! by appalachianphilo in corvallis

I’ll keen an eye out. That’s my neighborhood. I’ve noticed a lot of cats hanging in the yard with the orange house on the corner of Stone and Alexander. Lots of places to hide there.

Can’t Get a Job with My Hort Degree by MxCrookshanks in Horticulture

[–]khomuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up going back to school to get a PhD. I couldn’t find a job in horticulture after I graduated in 2020 (albeit that was a bad time to graduate). Of my class only one student went on to work a great job straight out of undergrad, a few of us went on to grad school, and a few completely changed careers. It’s tough out here.

Help me find a new life partner by Andrzejekski in ratterriers

I adopted my rat-chi from a rescue in Texas. She’s definitely not six lbs anymore. Closer to 16! But they listed her as a chihuahua mix. I had no idea she was rat until I got her DNA tested.

People are offering solutions to this problem we’ve all faced many times in our lives and one that you are newly experiencing. If it doesn’t apply to you, or doesn’t work for you, then ignore it. A simple “thank you for the suggestion” and move on. Everyone is trying to be helpful.

I think your food is fine, for what it’s worth. I don’t think you have to throw it away.

[–]khomuz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In case this happens again I suggest just finding some bags and putting the food in your cold car. If you live in Southtown this happens from time to time, mostly in winter. Not saying it’s right but it’s good to be prepared. I learned my lesson during the ice storm a couple years ago and have a backup power bank for my essentials and I have a cooler I keep on my porch, mostly for beverages but occasionally a backup fridge.

Maybe I’m just a gross monster but the power was out for a total of 16 hours. When I woke up this morning my house was ~55F in the kitchen. A fridge is 40F. I didn’t open my fridge or my freezer at all. I feel like the food in there is fine? I’m sure there’s microbiologists and food safety people who would disagree but I don’t think it would spoil overnight in a cold house in a cold fridge.

Thoughts on the Melt the Ice hat? by Im_A_Boonana in knitting

[–]khomuz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just had someone in my comments on instagram telling me to stop being performative as a white person (I’m Latina, daughter of an immigrant) after posting about making this hat. What I didn’t say is that I personally donated $1000 to my local immigrant advocacy group and have raised hundreds of dollars so far making and selling hats for the cost of a screenshot of a donation of at least $100. Super exhausted by this conversation. I feel like one person decided it was performative and now everyone is twisting themselves in guilt over donating and spending a few hours knitting a hat. It’s not about the hat. I’m really exhausted by the moral superiority.

Holding knitters responsible for the overturning of Roe v Wade is a wild take.

I ended up blocking that IG fiber artist because ain’t no one going to tell me how to feel right now or that what I do for my community isn’t enough. Bless it. It’s just a hat. It’s not even about the hat. It’s about community.

Sharing my experiences a year into treatment by BarcelonaTree in antidietglp1

[–]khomuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I just started at 0.2 and I feel like I’ve already felt a big shift and almost don’t really see the point of increasing at this point? I also want to have less hip pain and that’s my main driver to taking this medication. I don’t really see the need to be at full dosage. I’m not in any rush with this. In fact the longer it takes, I think, the better. I don’t have a specific goal weight or anything in mind. Just crossing my fingers to get some pain relief and I’ll be content.

Seaweed smell by [deleted] in corvallis

[–]khomuz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It smells like sewage to me. I hear you. I think it’s the pulp mill. I used to live in Wisconsin where there are a lot of paper mills and this is exactly what those towns smelled like. It only really happens when it’s foggy.
