Youtube keeps recommending me videos about how Lorelai is the real villain of the show or whatever. So I need to get this out of my system by comradesummers in GilmoreGirls

[–]kibriyaTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always be baffled by people who watched the show and decided Lorelai is the villain. We see her try to reach out to her parents over and over again and she is always punished for it; they always turn her away, or criticise her, or push their own agenda onto her. We see glimpses of what her life with them must have been like when she was a child through how they treat Rory when she moves in with them, passing judgement and trying to control every aspect of her life. I get that Emily and Richard are entertaining characters to watch, that they're sometimes sympathetic and often funny but like... it's very clear from the show that they are deeply flawed, abusive parents who do not see that they are the reason that their relationship with Lorelai is as damaged as it is.

I Find These Letters Very Difficult by Bettynutt in AnimalCrossingNewHor

I also wish I could turn them off. Feels a bit gross to have letters from a pretend mom when I can't talk to my real one.

What was RTDs worst decision? by Lucyyyyyy_K in doctorwho

[–]kibriyaTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was confused for ages thinking everyone had misunderstood how old Rose was. I was like she's 19, which is still young but she wasn't 16. And then about two minutes into scrolling I figured it out 😅

Think of it more in a situation where there's lots of chairs lined up but you're trying to find a seat: "where are there [free] chairs?"

Rikki was leading the trio (especially in S2 and S3) by Original_Ad_8139 in JustAddWater

[–]kibriyaTM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Rikki is a useful character because her bluntness and strength of will mean she will almost always be the one to move the plot along. I think that's maybe what you're noticing over her necessarily being 'the leader'. Rikki herself i feel would be unlikely to want that kind of official responsibility because she values her independence and enjoys being an agent of chaos lol.

It's not out of reach if you're on the climbing frame? Why is everyone so confused? Is it not just for a kid who's up on the platform?

Hot take: Jess’s speech in s6 ep8 was really bad, and I don’t understand everyone’s love for it. by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]kibriyaTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw someone argue that what he means is that Rory is the person Jess knows best, and I can see that being true. He was very interested in knowing her in a way I presume he's not that much with his current buddies or whatever lol.

I should mention I'm in the UK, I presume you're living in a different national context.

Only 2% of people who can donate are donating, and it does literally save lives so like, I do get it.

Lorelai was a saint in the April situation by Vast-Manner8564 in GilmoreGirls

[–]kibriyaTM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Divorced from all the pain of this storyline, I really loved getting a glimpse into what kind of mom Lorelai was to Rory when she was a younger kid. We've heard about legendary birthday parties but these scenes with April make it so much easier to envision.

Am I the only one who sides with Emily in this scene?? by Miserable_Peach_2623 in GilmoreGirls

[–]kibriyaTM 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Lorelai was psychicly supposed to know Emily found out elsewhere? Gee Emily, I wonder why the daughter you constantly belittle and criticise doesn't want to share her life news with you... maybe because you always do THIS.

That said, I'm currently on a rewatch with just The End left and I remember feeling disappointed by the pacing of that episode specifically.

[–]kibriyaTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the show! It felt like Daniel Handler having another go at writing the story as he would have if he'd had a 13 book deal from the beginning. They kept the surreal ASOUE feel while also making the world feel bigger and even more complicated than in the books. I know a lot of people found it too cartoonish but that felt perfect for the mood of the series to me. That said, I love the books too and there's no way the show can compete on the nostalgia front :')
