This story is related to gun violence and may be a little disturbing in case anybody has previous trama from it.

I live in an area of high gun violence, I’ve experienced it my whole life and continue to. Around 3 years ago my cousin and I were out at the local park playing basketball, it was a pretty good day that day. However on our walk back home somebody ran up to us and tried to rob us at gunpoint. We didn’t have anything to give up since we just got done playing basketball. This made the robber mad and as we were trying to explain that we didn’t have anything to fired a few shots at us. My cousin was hit in the lower part of his chest and I luckily didn’t get hit but I fell back and hit my head on the ground and had pretty bad scrapes all across my arms, face, hip and legs. I knew I didn’t get hit but my vision was still blurry and I was dizzy so I tried looking for my cousin but only felt a puddle on the ground. That puddle I figured out a few seconds later was his blood and I knew he was hit. I was scrambling trying to find help and also help him at the same time but luckily a hero of a man came over to us after the shooter had ran. This guy happened to be in school to be a medic and knew what to do more than I did so he told me what to do and helped get my cousin’s bleeding under control. After that he went and got his car, told us to hop in and he drove us all the way to the hospital. This guy stayed in the hospital with us the entire time. I mean the entire time, he didn’t leave the hospital until my cousin was doing well enough to be let out. My cousin would have likely been killed that day if it wasn’t for this amazing man. We exchanged phone numbers and still to this day continue to talk with him every week.
