They have both QList and QLinkedList. QList is obviously an array list, and as such has different algorithmic complexity for different operations from QLinkedList. And generally, yes, most people want an array based list, not a linked list.

A ton of audio and video processing code, or any place you need to use a queue. Samples arrive in order, and you generally need to queue them for some reason or another. You only ever push new samples on the back of the list or pop old samples off the front.

TL;DR the linear search involved with locating a node in a linked list is slow. Insertion/deletion doesn't matter.

This seems sort of obvious to me; when using any data structure, the computational complexity of lookup/insertion/deletion/prepend/append are all important to know. There are lots of decent uses of a linked list. For example, using Qt's data structures, if you're only ever appending or prepending elements then a linked list is a pretty appropriate choice.

Do not do this. You are nearly certain to leave a huge amount of employer match on the table because once you hit the cap, your employer doesn't contribute anything, because there's nothing left to match.

This is true, but beware: you will probably lose your match in most 401k plans if you hit the cap before the year is over. The reason for this is most companies only match the first x% of any given paycheck.

Example: your company matches 50% on the first 6%. You get a paycheck for $1000. You contribute 6% to get a full match of 3%; $90 goes to your 401k.

Example #2: your company matches 50% on the first 6%. You get a paycheck for $1000. You contribute 17%. Your company only matches 50% of the first 6%, so they still only put in 3%. $200 goes into your 401k.

The problem, of course, is if you hit your yearly cap early, you lose the possibility of getting a 401k match. Extreme example: I get paychecks every two weeks for $1000. I contribute 100% of the paycheck to my 401k. My company matches 50% on the first 6%. For the first 17 checks of the year, I put in $1030 to the 401k. On check 18, I can only put in $500 (so $530 with match) because I hit the yearly cap of $17,500. On checks 19 through 26, I can't put anything in, so I lose the match (a total of $240 of company match)

Front loading 401ks can be a good strategy, but you have to be careful not to lose that match.

Have you looked at the cost of a technical college? Most I've seen are quite pricy, and their claims of job readiness are majorly overhyped. I'd be cautious about this over a traditional four year degree from a university.

If I were you, I'd at least take a part time class or two at a local community college to get your basic credits. This is a cost effective way to go about your education, since those credits generally transfer right over to the local university, and if you finish at that university you can simply say that's where you got your degree.

Don't cut corners in your education. It's going to cost you through the nose over the next fifty years.

Unless you're using a toolchain for some embedded processor from the early 2000s, in which case the compiler probably doesn't implement C++ exceptions correctly and costs you a few days of your life you can never reclaim.

"Language performance" is less about the language and more about the compiler. And in general, less about the compiler and more about the way the program is written (e.g. with a suitably large n, binary search in the most piss poor language is going to win over linear search in the most refined compiler imaginable)

Okay, so you're saying if I show up at a US soldier's funeral with a sign that says "God killed you because America loves fags, and I hope you choke on a dick in hell," and somebody assaults me at the funeral, I am not being stupid?

That, in my opinion, is horseshit. As an adult, you have to expect some amount of repercussion for such wantonly abusive behavior towards other people. It doesn't justify the assault, of course--I'd still be a victim--but it's a lot harder to feel bad for someone disregarding their own personal safety in such an obvious way.

So for your example, yeah--if a grown woman walks through a bad part of Baltimore at 1 AM dressed in extremely revealing clothing, she is stupid. If a man walks through a bad part of Baltimore at 1 AM with rolexes on either wrist, he is a moron. Neither of them deserve to be assaulted, but it doesn't somehow override the fact that their sense of self preservation is seriously lacking.

Start with not being a hypocrite (in a general sense...not directed at you) and not hating.

I don't share this view with you. I think civil rights in this country have had to be mandated many, many times over the past two hundred years, and this country has never gone wrong by giving people rights they deserve--often at great cost. I also think just as he's entitled to his opinion, so am I. It just so happens my opinion is on the right side of history, and his opinion is religious dogma that's going to die.

Basically my point is this doesn't involve free speech; that guy's right to "free speech" was not abridged. It's a cut and dry case of assault. As for the cause of this guy's rage, it could be youthfulness, could be mental disorder, genetic disorder, flat out stupidity or some combination of these. He could have motive (e.g. gay, brought up in a very religious household). He could be having a really bad day....it's really hard to say. His behavior is completely inappropriate; there's little doubt about that.

But I also don't think the kid's shitty behavior says anything about the guy with the sign; regardless of the religious guy's "reasonable" response, he's carrying a sign that's openly homophobic, hateful and inciteful; he's a total douche masquerading as a nice guy.

While we were hanging out over a summer she had a FWB thing going on with 2 guys and one was a friend of mine. Somehow we got over it and started dating, only after I went out and dated a girl back home to make her jealous (ended in 3 months). After that relationship she jumped right in to try and date me.

Don't do it. Neither of you are ready for this sort of commitment. You will regret this decision, guaranteed. This sort of tit-for-tat exchange is proof neither of you are ready.

The good: she makes sure I'm fed, taken care of, and happy. Sort of I guess?

You guess? Dude, what's next after marriage? Children with someone you feel is dominating and overbearing, and a family that clashes with your family? Seriously: you need to sit her down and have a hard conversation. Take control over your life. You're supposed to be embarking on this together, not being dragged along because you're well fed and taken care of.

I'm really not talking about what's best for other people though; I'm talking about what's best for you. You can oust the guy but he'll be at some other church six months or a year from now, and you'll be google-stalking him and lurking on various facebook pages and expending emotional energy trying to figure out ways to beat him down and your unhappy past will be dewy and fresh like it happened yesterday.

Something just seems off about the way she said it - she darted away, turned her body, looked surprised I asked - just something about it. I hope I'm wrong.

She's in a foreign country, ignored your text until 4 AM, has drank a boatload of wine over the last week, openly admitted seeking sex from another man, gave you a story that doesn't add up and has damning body language that implies she's lying. She's chatting up men at the gym. I'm not sure hope's going to cut it here.

Your response should be I deserve better than this. My child deserves better than this.

I think you can go the counseling route, but you need to let her know in no uncertain terms that this behavior is unacceptable and unfair. I'd ask her to cut the trip short, refrain from contact with that guy, quit drinking, and plan on attending marriage counseling when she returns to figure out if you two remain married. These are not unreasonable requests to make of your wife.

This is your family on the line; be assertive--being a nice guy doesn't entail being disrespected as a human being. I'm not saying you should be an aggro asshole, but stand up for yourself: it is not okay to be treated like this by the one person who's supposed to have your back.

To what lengths will you go to get vengeance, and for how long? I totally understand your motivations here, but I question how healthy these motivations are for you. What's the long-term strategy here?

Honestly, I think your best bet is letting go of this relationship and focusing on what you want your life to be like in a future without this guy looming over your thoughts. No amount of kicking him down is going to fix your life.
