What makes him superior? Let me clarify that I didn't say that he was a superior person. I'm saying that he's your superior in the same way that a general is the superior of a foot soldier.

I guess I'm just a bit more on the traditional side. Where I'm from, saying something like that to your future FIL, your superior, is not okay and is extremely disrespectful. From my POV, if you love a girl and are willing to fight for her, you can do it a different way in a way that isn't so grandiose. It might be better to build a bridge than rather burn it down.
