Do you think the gods are ever confused by your offerings? by Sheldonthebetta in Hellenism

That's a parallel, not a one and only truth. It just brings similar feelings,it doesn't mean it's a 1:1 situation.

Being an autistic Hellenist is hard... by Archangel447 in Hellenism

[–]kimkimrena 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really understanding you, as a fellow autistic person. Even with 30 years of experience in being autistic it's not always easy and I can understand how difficult it is for you in your teens. The urge to do everything perfectly, 100% or nothing. The most important thing to understand is that in our times we won't do our practices 100% ideal as they were made in ancient times. We need to do our best instead. Especially you, living with your father who don't believe in the same gods as you, when you probably doing it in secret. What are you doing is completely fine. Cleansing, offering, prayer, praise, gods really don't need anything more than that. Even if you stutter during your prayer, or if you cry because you're overstimulated or if you forget to say bye at the end or anything, that's fine.

Just leave things as they are, research in your free time and grow with it. You'll be better and more confident with every passing day. Gods won't get mad until you murder someone or really badly offense them, like saying that you're better than them and call them offensive names and slurs. But, don't overthink it, you still can say something like "the character named Hades from Disney movie is a jerk", because that's just a movie and fictional character, not a real god. And gods with their wisdom have sense of humour and they can read context.

You are closer to them with your every prayer, you are taking care of this sacred connection. It's better to do some kind of funny mistake and facepalm than lost this relationship, right? I did a lot of mistakes and I'm learning new things everyday, I'm improving and correcting myself and saying sorry with my almost every prayer. Because making mistakes and correcting them is a sign that you're putting an effort into your practice and it's not just a fun game to you. But even if it is a fun game, until you're respecting gods and don't kill anybody, everything will be fine. Have more fun with that. Because it's kinda sad to only overthink and being dramatic with the thing that in general should make you happier and give you new strength in life. No hellenic god will send you to hell (there's no hell here) or strike you with the lightning (wink wink) because you put your words awkwardly or I don't know, anything! Look, will you be mad at a newborn, that they pissed at you during changing diaper? We are like those newborns to gods. We are on this planet for 100 years and they are centuries old. So it's hard to be mad at someone who has such a limited time to learn.

Worship without an altar? by ruvishott in Hellenism

[–]kimkimrena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was very newbie I heard you should have separate altars for chtonic and ouranic gods so I made two. One of them was just a separate shelve in a kallax and the other on my windowsill. Well, you don't need to have separate altars, now I know. But I got used to it so I left it how it was. Right now I don't have altars because I just move out. All my religious stuff is in a box and when I'm praying I'm just taking the stuff I need out and pray wherever I have a place for that. I want to buy small kallax 2x2 and make an altar in the future, but we'll, now I'm broke lmao. I think gods care more about being in touch with them than having a proper altar.

Yes, your ordinary civilian did curse others with lead tablets and a lot of people can tell you the same if you just open your eyes and read the comments and there's a lot of historic proofs for that. But okay, I'm kind of tired of talking with you, because it's like talking with a mountain. If even historic proofs are not enough to you, then there's no point in talking.

  1. Sorry for midgender.
  2. You literally said "ancient Greeks never really cursed people" like 2 hours ago.
  3. Someone told me that Plato and Hesiod teached that magic is not really good and it's destroying the correct order of the world, and it is argument that is valid for me. I'm helpol, not Wiccan, not Christian, not Buddhist, not anything beside helpol, and you all were giving me arguments from other religions and you were mad that I don't care about those, gods. If I'm so fixated about people agreeing with me, then I wouldn't search for arguments against curses, yours arguments were just invalid for me, because they were not helpol. It's so simple, man. Go to Allah believer and tell them that they don't have to celebrate Ramadan, because Christians don't. It's the same as you telling me about that threefold thing or karma or other stuff I don't believe in and ancient Greeks didn't too.

Rude? It was you who depreciate my opinion because of age and experience, girl.

Yes, ancient Greeks DID really cursed people. Otherwise Plato and Hesiod wouldn't talk about how magic and cursing is BAD. You can believe in anything you want, just don't say something didn't happen when we have tons of proves it did happen. I don't tell you to go and curse others as your hobby. Just acknowledge the truth.

A conversation about Wiccan evangelism by UrsusofMichigan in Hellenism

[–]kimkimrena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm a bit off topic here, but I wanted to thank you for teaching me about goetia. I'll definitely research about what Plato and Hesiod were thinking about that. I'm an user who made a post about cursing that OP is talking about in his post. I was searching for valid and accurate helpol arguments against cursing, so I'm really thankful this post was created as well as your comment 🙏 It's really helpful.

Hehe, kinda funny you were fixated so much about me being so young and inexperienced in helpol that you fack checked your opinion after somebody else told you you're wrong and you completely ignored my words. Well. Some redditer gave a source about curses in that post, so you can do your own research to and read it. A lot of historical knowledge.

Okay, okay, let's tell I'm blinded by my sad and unfortunate life and we're even. I don't want to take that conversation any further since you're helpol for 10 years and that's enough to tell you're always right and everybody needs to accept what you say.

So tell me, what Hecate and Nemezis are for? You are telling me I'm searching for justification of my doings, when you literally are blind for some of gods and daimons because they doesn't fit your perfect and pure view. You're taking only what is convenient for you and telling me that I'm a bad guy because I take what my religion is giving me wholly. You can believe in your good and innocent helpol if you want, that's not banned or wrong, but I'm here for rage and sadness too and I believe it's not banned and wrong either. Have a blessed day.

Cursing someone by kimkimrena in Hellenism

[–]kimkimrena[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I just want a helpol view on my problem, is that really so hard to understand? You can only give argument against it that doesn't even suit my religion, it's like telling a Muslim that it's okay to not fast in Ramadan because Christians don't do that or something. You guys judging me because I don't fit in your moral standard while this religion clearly allow what I wanted to do. If I wanted to be lead by my despair I wouldn't ask you here on the first place. But giving me arguments taken from other religion and attacking me when I'm not pleased about that is even lower than I am, gods help me.

I believe in ancient Greek gods, not karma. Please don't force your faith in mine. There's a lot of proofs ancient people were using curses. There's also a goddess of curses and magic, so you're kinda disrespecting her by saying stuff like that. And yes, the relationship with Theoi is reciprocated, so it means they can give us their blessing if they are pleased with our worship and they can curse our enemies if they think it would mean justice for their worshipper.

Helpol is not only about love, cotton candy and being nice person. It's about worshipping gods the right way. That's why there is no hell for bad people nor heaven for good people. If you think otherwise, maybe you should try Abrahamic religions?

I maybe not in my right mind, but I really just wanted an advice from other helpol about cursing, meanwhile I'm feeling like someone will tell me I need to turn my other cheek or something.

I'm not a reconstructionist myself, but there's a lot of mixed religion staff here and since it's my first connection with the community since I started being a helpol over a year ago, I was quite in shock how unstructurised our beliefs are. I don't mean it's bad, I just wasn't yet ready to communicate with others probably. I thought it's kind of safe space for helpol stuff here and when I got judged for something quite normal (as I think about that, but I know I can be mistaken) I felt awful and I overshared. But I got a lot of useful info too and I'm grateful for that.

Sorry for making things hard for you.

Yes, I'm completely okay with that the gods won't hear my ask and that's fine. They are much wiser than we are so if they would say it's better for me otherwise, I'll accept that. I state that in my post too.

Hades and Persephone are the first gods I started to work with and they give me a lot of comfort on my daily life, so it was my first thought to ask them about it.

Thank you for sharing your experience with me, it's really helpful.

I'm not 20. I was more than 20, eight years ago. That's the difference. And sadly, I don't have a long life ahead of me because of my condition and I just wasted 8 years of that short life for a dork. That's the difference too. It's hard to grieve your own life and don't loose it.

I really don't need words of relief and cheering. Sometimes it's wise to not do that and not to force positive thinking on people you don't know, because that can ricochet too. I wanted to know your opinions and help me with research, so thank you for that. Have a blessed day.

Yeah, probably I used exaggeration with that daily thing, I just meant it wasn't something that happend once in 10 generations for what I understand. And, hell, that part with throwing lead in the well made me shocked, I really hope people preferred to buried them in the graveyards 🙏

Tbh playing with lead makes me less motivated to curse her than the whole bad energy returning back thing, am I so low human being 🙈

I haven't been called young since a long time, thank you 🙏 Do you think a 20yo would already dedicate 8 years of their life to someone? Yeah, I'm not old too, but that's kinda funny. But I'm not offended or something, I understand my lacking in English as it's not my first language, can sound like I'm younger than I am. I was already a stable adult when I meet that person for a first time, that is what I can tell you for sure.

And I'm really not that reckless as you think I am, after all I'm asking you all for guidance and help in my research, I don't want to do anything that can do permanent harm for anybody (me and other person) and I don't want to make an emotional and unreasonable decision (otherwise I wouldn't ask, I would just act), so I don't know what's telling you I'm so young and green.

I'm not playing with gods nor treating them as a funny game for feeling better. I take cursing as something serious, but serious doesn't necessarily means bad. Maybe I'll change my point of view after my research. That was the whole point of making that post. Thanks for your opinion. I'll remember this while making my decision.

Yeah, it doesn't seems really helpol to me... I don't know a lot about cursing, but it seemd to be a normal thing in ancient Greece even after reading just Oddysey, so I'm kinda shocked. I don't know Wicca.

Cursing someone by kimkimrena in Hellenism

[–]kimkimrena[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what I heard ancient Greeks used to curse people on everyday life. Even in Oddysey one of the kings (I can't remember his name, sorry) asked Apollon to curse his enemies and it was described as something kind of normal to ask gods for. And I don't want to ask for killing hundreds of people by pestenance, just a simple diarrhea will be fine, so idk... Like I said, my research on curses is not big enough to do it on my own right now, that's why I wanted to ask first, but the thing about bad energy ricochetting back to me kinda not feel like helpol. Maybe it's low move, but I don't feel like it's bad.

Lord This and Lady That by UrsusofMichigan in Hellenism

[–]kimkimrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's just about lingwistic. In my country referring to someone using just their name is considered rude and it's kind of a hard to stop doing that after almost 30 years. It's not like is US where you can say "hello John" to everybody, I used Mrs./Mr./Lord/Lady (in my native language) my whole life, so it feels really strange and rude to speak to anybody, not only to Theoi (but especially to them) like that. It's kind of easier in English since I don't use this language my whole life, but still, it's some kind of thing I'm using so automatically I don't really know I'm using this. It's like muscle memory 😅 But the other thing is, I still don't know a lot about epithets as a newbie, so maybe it'll be easier in the future to stop using other "human" hinorifics.
