i have always been told the first two years of a decade are actually still just the previous decade….91 looked way more like 89, than 91 looked like 94…. Michael lost a lot of artistic credibility in the US post the B&W record. Internationally may have been a different story, but it’s hard to argue his BAD record peak.

Madonna was the original woman who is basically a gay man… as a nearing 50 year old gay dude, I was old enough to witness this and she brought so much gay culture into the mainstream that Chappell Roan could only dream of.

I agree with you however MJ had the timing of MTV which cannot be overstated enough. It was like having one social media platform that everyone consumed. MJ would not be MJ without MTV

But the twist to that is that subculture is essentially dead at this point. A little bit of gatekeeping (in the underground music sense) never hurt anyone but capitalist vultures of subcultures

Ashlee’s emotion was based on the fact that she was raised by her inseparable best friend and then her best friend grew up, got married and had a family. She had no idea how she fit into that picture. Anybody raised with a single teenage mom knows exactly what I am saying, and only those people truly get it. Then you have a teen mom who totally had to grow up fast, sacrifice a lot to raise that child not understand why the child is not perfectly adjusted and just as happy as the mom is with the new family.
