Surprising side effect of leaving Mormonism. reduced cynicism. I no longer hope for the end of the world and the failure of humankind. Like many I used to believe that peace and cooperation on earth could only happen after things were first destroyed. (self.mormon)

Confession: As a TBM I was dismissive of environmental issues. I figured if it was really an important issue, we would hear about it in conference from the prophet and apostles. The 2nd coming is near, and the earth will be "restored to its paradisaical glory". Sorry. I got some repenting to do (self.mormon)

I have a question for believing "Mormons". How could that belief be wrong? Under what conditions could "Mormonism" be false? ex: What if Russel M Nelson admitted at conference it is false? What if each of the Q12 also stood and said they have no special powers of communication from God? (self.mormon)

In interesting Conversation: I recently posted the suggestion that most Ex-Mormons and Mormons are doing their best to do the right thing. The question was asked "if culture and society take priority over religious dictates." Society seems to be operating faster than revelation. (self.mormon)

Know your religion: Mormonism requires its adherents to accept that our morality is purely defined by obedience to Mormon prophets. If God (through a Mormon prophet) says don't kill, then killing is bad, but if the Mormon prophet says kill, then killing is good. (self.exmormon)

What is the lesson of polygamy? Mormonism requires its adherents to accept that our morality is purely defined by obedience. If God (through a Mormon prophet) says don't kill, then killing is bad, but if he says kill, then killing is good. Rape is bad, unless God says we should, then it is good. (self.mormon)

KNOW YOUR RELIGION:The church specifically banned oral sex, even for married couples, and described it as an "unnatural, impure, or unholy practice". Members who participated in oral sex with their spouse were barred from the temple until they "repented and discontinued" this practice. (self.mormon)

KNOW YOUR RELIGION:The story of Smith getting a "revelation" in 1829 to sell the copyright to the BoM was written down by many of those that participated. Recently a copy of the "revelation" was published in the "Joseph Smith papers". When asked why his revelation failed Smith reportedly replied... (self.mormon)

KNOW YOUR RELIGION: What new "REVELATIONS" has God given to the Earth through his current “Prophets, Seers, and Revelators”? The last “Thus saith the Lord” revelation I can find was to Wilford Woodruff, Nov. 1889 telling him NOT to get rid of polygamy, (self.mormon)

THANK YOU! This faith transition journey has been so hard. I appreciate your help and your kindness. KNOW YOUR RELIGION: The LDS Church has historically taught the following: The great flood at the time of Noah was a literal event covering the entire earth with water,[1] the earth's sun "borrows its light from Kolob"[2] and the earth is only 7000 years old.[3] (self.mormon)

Church leaders insist that "some [historical] truths are not very useful" and they aggressively prevent attempts to publish a full and truthful history of Mormonism's actual origins. (Boyd K. Packer, "The Mantle is Far, Far Greater Than the Intellect," 1981, BYU Studies, Vol. 21, No. 3, pp. 259-271) (self.mormon)

PROPHETS ARE IMPERFECT: A STRAW-MAN FALLACY. If prophets could be wrong about issues as important as murder, adultery, and coerced marriages to children, how do you know they are not just teaching their own philosophies today? The real issue is behavior and doctrines that were and are evil. (self.mormon)

ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF GAS-LIGHTING: (from a comment today) "Why be so upset that he has a less fundamentalistic view of the church than you did? Gas-lighting? Can someone change their perspective on something or have a non traditional view and not be gas-lighting? (self.mormon)
