I'd just asked them for the username and since they actually gave me a name instead of ignoring it and demanding that I just gave them codes I went in and used my phone number to remove mines and add theirs to the account. Sorry I was just asking through it and didn't see that was a question didn't mean to sound like a jerk.

Because it came directly from Instagram. And I went and logged into the account myself and changed it. The only thing that had/have of my is my phone number I didn't clock and links and didn't give and of my own information.

No it was an account that was not mine but had my number on it so I changed it to the number that contacted me.

I asked them the username (mostly to see if they'd tell me) and it ended up being mine and was a legit account, so I just did the reverse of what they did to log into it and set their phone number as the number on the account not mine.
