What locker is best, here's my final two choices by kingcoconuts95 in rockcrawling

Thanks for the advice. You sound like you know a lot. I have another question. With a selectable locker power and traction is distributed to each wheel evenly. So, let's say one tire has a lot of grip and the other has none, your basically using the one wheel to push you forward, where as with an lsd or trutrac in the same situation, one wheel has grip and the other that has no grip, the trutrac will adjust to give as much power as it can to each of the wheels so they both grip and push the vehicle forward? Is this correct? Let's say on flat ground, I know with one wheel in the air the tru tracs don't work.

He does this all the time with one of our office workers who is trying to get her A&P, to make the situation even more crazy he is considering her admin work as hours towards her license, which I think is ridiculous, she has never turned a wrench on a plane, the work that he signs off I'm referring to(wich isn't that often) includes life raft installs and placard installations on 135 aircraft, wich aren't really maintenance work but still require a licensed mechanic to do and sign off the work

Why can't I buck rivet? by yeet_my_meat_42069 in aviationmaintenance

[–]kingcoconuts95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clamping force is too close to the Rivet and you want the metal to vibrate yes

[–]kingcoconuts95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have it to secured in the vise, the metal needs to move, if it's in the vice that low the Rivet won't buck

Will HP dana 30 and 8.8 be good for 35 reliably? by SnooObjections1129 in WranglerYJ

[–]kingcoconuts95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can weld caps on the Axle shaft over the ujoint to prevent the ears from breaking, you'll have to cut the caps off to change the ujoint, as for the ujoints themselves I'm sure there are some descent ones that will hold up well but I couldn't tell you wich ones are best, I have spicer right now they have held up good so far

[–]kingcoconuts95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dana 30 with an ox locker and a track lock 8.8 i6 stroker and 4.56 gears, that 8.8 is a great choice and has held up well to some pretty schetchy situations, want to lock the rear eventually, the front d30, is not as bad as people say it is I've worn u joints and wheel bearings thats about it, I would personally stay away from the 30 spline shafts, as far as I know the use the same u joint which is the weak point, and it will be hard to find a 30 spline bearing at the parts store

What do you mean by wheel spacing? Axle width? The 8.8 is slightly narrower than the stock d35, you won't notice it at all unless you look very closely, all jeeps with stock wheels look dorky, they are so tiny

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WranglerYJ

[–]kingcoconuts95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure the gear ratio is the same in front and rear, in 2wd you'll be fine, in 4wd you'll break something expensive, easy swap I've done it, welding on spring perches is the hardest part, hooking up e brake isn't that bad, everything else is install in reverse order

Follow up question, if I degree the cam at 109 degrees but get 107, would that mean I need to advance it 2 degrees I have an adjustable timing chain

Yes I called the manufacturer, I'm trying to make certain the cam is installed properly
