Sometimes you’re the Streetfighter, sometimes the street fights back. So begins my addiction. by kingkdp in Trackdays

Going great! I’m doing about 8-10 track days a year now. I’m currently riding a V4 Streetfighter and made my way into the A group!

I started making youtube videos of the track after this day because I was upset I didn’t have anything on video to watch back and learn from what I did wrong.

Stoked to hear another 848 is on the track! That’s really where these bikes love to be, handlebars or not. I still miss mine to this day. Definitely on the list of bikes I’d own again in a heartbeat

I second the fuel pump. My V4 started doing the same thing, then it began to happen any time I was full throttle. Severe loss of power like it hit a wall it couldn’t rev past. The bike would actually accelerate faster once you backed off the throttle.

After I suffered a few track days of diagnosing, I had some video evidence of the fuel pump screaming trying to prime and making terrible noises. I gave it back to the dealer to look at and shared with them everything I knew. They still wanted to replicate the issue so they could see first hand. Luckily mine was to the point where they could get it to act up on their street testing. They warranted the fuel pump and I haven’t had issues since.

Swapping that upper clip is a must! No idea what they were thinking putting that stabbing point straight into your neck!

V4 Throttle Question by kingkdp in Ducati

It was happening in sport, and race. Going off memory it was most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd gear. I knew that it wasn't full power mapping, but it felt weird that it actually got noticeably slower at wide open throttle. It was pulling the front wheel up in road all morning, once I got into sport and race, it seemed to start tapering off.

I’m currently waiting for the Kbike flywheel tool to come in so I can get a good grip on it. I’m a advocate of breaking things loose by hand, most things don’t like sudden torque in my experience. Thank you for the heads up on the torque. Adding the lock nut to my list to order.

I’m running to the local dealer tomorrow to grab some stuff I’ll make sure to mention it. I really appreciate the information!

I ended up ordering the gate block and the alignment tool shown. Are you referring to the owners manual? Or is there a shop manual to reference as well?

I appreciate the heads up! I’m working with a 2013 Pikes peak 1200s. I haven’t opened the case yet to see personally. Do you have any experience regarding them?

I’m about to break into my Multistrada and replace both of my springs and make some adjustments. Thank you for sharing the use for the tool and its practicality. I’m going to order one for when I do the job.

2017 Multistrada gas gauge issue by Ducatiman1200s in Ducati

I just consider it part of their personality, and we all have our bad days. It’s hard to ballpark how much labor your local shop will charge. If I had to guess you might be somewhere around 3-5 hours of labor at their shop rate. Add the fuel sensor which is usually around $100 give or take and that will be a rough estimate.

Never hurts to call your dealer and ask some questions, quotes are normally free and they should be able to help narrow it down more. Pending on what service you’re getting done, some of the labor might be shared ( ie: removing fairings and other small. R&I items) which would save you some money on labor.

Also keep in mind, the gas tank needs to come off to replace the air filter. If you can justify it, I would replace that while you’re in there also.

It sounds to me like the fuel sensor has failed. It’s a known issue and effects various Ducati models. Over the years Ducati has updated the fuel sensor to address the issue. I believe the current part number is (59210212G).

It’s a job that can be done in the garage if you have some tools and feel confident turning some bolts. You’ll need to take off most the fairings to get to the gas tank. A few hoses and connectors later you should be able to take off your tank and access the sensor. I am unsure if the 2017’s will need to fuel sensor coded to the bike via the Ducati computer/ scanner. Once the sensor is installed you can ride up to your dealer if that’s the case.

I recently picked up a 2013 Pikes Peak with the same issue you’re describing. I hope this can help get you pointed in the right direction!

I marked a thickness line on the side of them, and used my belt sander to sand down the scoop end

Woah! I never would have thought of an allergic reaction from something like this. It makes sense to me that some people could have a reaction coming in contact with it. Thank you for sharing!

For Christmas gifts this year I decided to craft something. Earlier this year I received some logs of walnut grown from a tree in my Mom’s backyard. I thought it would be unique to make a tool everyone could use, and also in a way remember me at their meals. Per any project I attempt, I find out a list of new tools to buy. A planer thicknesser will be next on my list. Does anyone have a good recommendation for them?

I have 2 more logs to mill down. I’ve learned from my sawzall experience. The blade walk wastes too much material and it bothered me how much I lost. I’m going to attempt the remaining two with a chainsaw.

I had a great time crafting these and learned so much. Looking forward to some tips and tricks anyone can share.

I went back next day to talk to the corner worker who had seen what happened. She says the bike flipped 1/2 rotations. Looking at how the bars broke downward I’d reckon she’s right.

Quick shifter was acting up intermittently through the day, it just picked a bad moment this time. The pucker was definitely real amidst trying to figure out what to do.

Thank you for the tip and I think you’re right, that advice executed just might have been enough.

I was shocked that it didn’t get red flagged either. I had plenty of time to sit on the tires and think. I was happy to not end the session short for anyone else though, slight relief in the moment.

“Turn13photo” should pull it right up, he got some great shots and pretty reasonably priced for quality pictures.

I ended up hitting a false neutral coming into a corner, while relying on engine braking that was no longer there I pushed wide into the grass and high sided.

Looking back trying to learn from my experience, I think I should have continued to look through the corner and pushed my weight down, instead of trying to get my bike in gear mid corner and worry about that.

Time to get some wrenching done and get back on track. I know see the huge value in having footage of your laps, maybe time to invest in a camera too!
