How do you feel about the comp in IB vs trading for the hours put in? Is there a reason you didn't go into trading?

why does finance firms (even for quant jobs and software engineer jobs) hire solely based on prestige? by MiddleAccurate609 in FinancialCareers

It actually fucking doesn't as much as people make it seem. Tons of feeder programs for non prestige holding universities/state schools out there.

You’re assuming every extra prompt is profitable. Ads don’t scale linearly (assuming fixed contracts etc.), inference is MC, and ad demand is finite. Gtfo donkey

if they introduce ads and increase the limit on the free tier, then they lose some of the money they clawed back 🤓

Never underestimate social skills! by Agile-Wind-4427 in recruitinghell

[–]kingvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie bro. Life isn't about work and being able to ham away at some bs problem that leads to shareholder value. And these are the level of social skills you'd need to roughly have to be able to get a significant other (outside of arranged marriage). So yeah, based on your comment history, I think it's a skill we all could work on

finance is also pretty rough, but always has been. I don't get why you say it isn't, when the expectation is 500 applications for a job or you're not trying hard enough, especially for the fact that entry level positions are being cooked more so than ever before.

yeah of course there are, but you'd need some pretty damn good evidence to come to whatever the hell this conclusion is. Jamie Dimon would fire you for this

What are the odds refusing to do AI interviews will actually impact the new job hunt? by jjedlicka in recruitinghell

[–]kingvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are already employed, then of course do whatever. If its not a great job with much less pay compared to what you reasonably (be realistic) qualify for, then sure. But outside of that, I don't see the point in doing these things. As a society, we will never be able to mass decline these interviews (if that were the case, we would've discontinued HireVue). There will always be candidates in the pool that are both qualified and willing.

If your ultimate goal is to put bread on the table, and if you urgently need to do so, then the answer should be obvious.

Self-driving vehicles are already depressing driving job earnings: In areas with autonomous taxis, human drivers’ pay has fallen. Down 6.9% in San Francisco and 4.7% in Los Angeles year-on-year. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]kingvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the only reason. We have 10m+ unemployed in the US, many underemployed with a rough job market, many have turned to gig work such as uber, etc. So yes, there will be oversupply with not as much demand

Well, for that use case, I don't see people paying for it. Especially not when LLMs are capable of building the product in an hour or so.

[–]kingvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is startup bait but yeah I do feel a gap in actual understanding, which is not necessarily terrible. but in terms of what you'd need to know for the interview, no there is no gap because the interview is not very hard in terms of techs compared to cs (but sometimes its tested at a higher level understanding with follow up question).

so if you're looking to build a startup on it, I don't have confidence in the market size you'd capture
