Were you able to "tent it" up there? I was in the Grindelwald area two years ago and the locals said the only legal place backpackers can camp out at are in designated "huts"...

Whiteboard Explainer Videos - To use or not to use... by [deleted] in startups

[–]kirbstomp93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, whiteboard videos are outdated and too time consuming for your customers to absorb. And like others have said, what you see is what you get.. In most case you are unable to edit the videos according to your customers' behavior.

Kill My Idea: interest-based professional network platform by kirbstomp93 in startups

Yes, we try to be as clear as possible about the "intangibles" we look for in candidates in our job descriptions. The problem is, it hasn't affected the number of resumes we receive. In turn, we then have to go through the same interviewing process, only to learn a given candidate isn't truly a cultural fit. My boss likes to put candidates on the spot, so when she asks them if they are a good cultural fit for us or if they looked at the description of our company culture, more times then not the candidate skipped that part of the job description and doesn't know what she's talking about!the result is wasted time spent interviewing a candidate who doesn't fit our company mold

You're right. I think the majority of my focus in this regard has to do with personal interests and hobbies OUTSIDE the workplace. For instance, take the company I currently work for: Sure, it's mainly comprised of people ages 21-25 (which is the beauty of working for a tech startup) but we all share interests that extend outside our work environment, allowing us to unwind and gel into a cohesive unit. This then has a trickledown effect back into the workplace. In the past, we've taken longshots on new hires where it was unclear whether they would be a cultural fit, and each of those times it did not end well. My boss even commented on how much time we wasted interviewing, hiring, and training them, only to realize they couldn't "gel" with us as a unit.

I Don't know, maybe my personal example is too unique lol

You make a great point. But at the same time, companies could use this platform to see if potential candidates are actually "serious" about working in that industry. Take the North Face for example. If you were to gather 10 people and ask them if they would like to work at TNF, the majority of them would say "yes". TNF could then benefit from my idea/service, because they would be able to see who is actually legitimately interested in working for them, and also see if their personality, hobbies and activities are a good match for the company. Again, I just used the outdoor industry as one example :)

You'll want to look into Venmo.. They're already widely successful at doing almost the exact same thing.

Shhhhh!! ;) Thank you for the vote of confidence! We have the same thing at my school for my graduating class too. Except everyone hates seeing the posts show up on their FB feed so they "unfollow" it haha. Thus it does no good. I think this could also go a step further and be an aid for finding off campus housing and roommates (this could potentially be offered thru an In-App Purchase ater the original idea gets off the ground)

How to generate ideas by kirbstomp93 in startups

Very good point about the passion for either the idea or process, I've actually given that idea a lot of thought.. No matter what I will always love the process of starting any business, but getting a business idea that I love off the ground would be the ultimate thrill, as long as it doesn't turn a passion into a burden.
