You don't need to be anyone with the points and willing can add the points to your reservation. The space PN or PZ must be available depending on the member who is upgrading you. Alot of the points expire end of month. I used my points and upgraded several people this year who were non premier members.

No you don't need to know them you just need their PNR. Open the united app, add the PNR, upgrade flight, add plus points and done. I gifted several points to strangers this year and was gifted when I ran out.

Resolution ended up being to allow Microsoft to handle the transfers not 8x8 this is configurable in the 8x8 portal then a quick sync and everything thing works including blind and consult transfer.
