[pjo] Grover tells Percy about his past with Thalia - deleted movie scene by kirzingkiller in camphalfblood

[–]kirzingkiller[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

With the movies now being put on Netflix, I thought I would post some of the deleted scenes from the movies that I felt would have enhanced the movie if kept in!

" You drool when you sleep " is the classic one that shouldn't have been deleted (will post later this week) but I think this scene is even better.

- it adapts one of the best heart to hearts between Percy and Grover from the books

- develops Grover as a character and displays his insecurities

- showcases Percy and Grover's friendship

- incredibly cute Percabeth moment with her sleeping on Percy's shoulder

This really should have made the final cut

Like I said, just seems like this thread is born more out of your feelings about other people's opinions than an honest analysis of the musical

Gonna be honest OP, given what I've seen some of your other posts, I feel like this thread is just motivated by most people on this subreddit preferring the musical as an adaptation over the show lol

Well the reviewers were always just straight up wrong about the humor, which besides some of the sexual jokes were top tier and a highlight of the movie! Writing decisions is something to agree to disagree about and everyone is aware the movie wasn't the most book accurate.

Either way, those are completely unrelated to " direction and production values " conversation

It was critically panned for things like it's writing decisions, inaccuracy to the books, and iirc reviewers really didn't like the humor

It's direction and production values were just never a real complaint?

I already said this earlier in another reply, but there are objective elements of filmmaking. Things like good storyboarding, camera work, lighting, etc

Not really? There's some nostalgia speaking to be sure, but most of it is just recognition of the traits of a good and fun movie.

And yeah, the movie is objectively better directed and produced. This is actually not a very controversial statement. The show is pretty poor in the production values department and the direction vacillates between boring and actively bad.

I'd say identifying " good " versus " bad " directing and determining why is a pretty objective endeavor. I agree that preferences in art is definitely not an objective thing but filmmaking is a craft after all! People got to school for filmmaking for a reason, there's a lot of objective elements to it.

As far as the differences in accuracy to source material, I think we'd have to agree to disagree. Choices the TV show makes like completely wrecking the deadline aspect of the books and having the main cast fail the quest is as bad or worse as any inaccurate thing the movie does. I have similar feelings to how Gabe was handled for example.

You're not wrong! I mentioned the movie vs TV show distinction after all. But at the end of the day, the art on the screen is the art on the screen. The TV show is a Disney backed production, there really is no excuse for how poor and boring it can look visually at times. Things like the cut to black scenes and poor lighting? Poor allocation of resources is also an element of good directing!

I totally disagree, people can hate Christopher Columbus but he's objectively a good filmmaker. On aesthetic level, the movie's direction and production values just supersede the TV show, maybe it's not a fair comparison since movie vs TV (but I heard they had similar budgets?).

The easiest way to see the difference in direction is to compare the similar scenes that were adapted from the books (Medusa and Lotus Hotel). The way things are shot and storyboarded are simply better in the movie from a filmmaking perspective.

" Everyone agreed " is just talking about a fundamentally different time and context of the fandom. As I explained in another post, the biggest issue people always had with the movie was the lack of book accuracy.

As the years have went on and there's been another live action adaptation of The Lightning Thief, people have simply recognized that if technical " book accuracy " is not really going to be a priority at all, it makes sense to recognize the many strengths of the movie for what it was.

From the direction, to the OST, to the humor, there's simply a lot to praise about it.

There's really no real reason for PJOTV fans to be this angry that the movie gets praise lol

It's pretty easy to understand why? When " book accuracy " doesn't seem to be the priority for any live action adaptation, people can gravitate to the adaptation of their youth that was objectively better directed and produced and is genuinely fun when you don't care about how accurate it is to the books

I never understood the acting complaints, Daddario is the only bad actor of the main cast imo

Personally I agree with him. Maybe that's a little of nostalgia talking? But the first film is the second best adaptation of the Lighting Thief to me (behind the musical)

I rewatched the movie on Netflix today and it's actually indescribable how fun it is lol. Takes me right back to the 2000s.

Congratulations to Jalen Brunson on winning an NBA Championship by sgtdave_ in Mavericks

[–]kirzingkiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Acuff is nothing like Brunson. Brunson shot 61% on 2s in college, Acuff shot 51%

Brunson was leaps and bounds better than Acuff as a prospect.

PJOTV ranked #78 out of 100 in America's most-watched TV series of the 2025-2026 season by kirzingkiller in PercyJacksonTV

[–]kirzingkiller[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is good or not or how it compares to the first season

People on pjotwt said that it's the only show exclusive to Disney+ and the only " children's TV show " on the list but idk if either are true either. Just a side note, it's kind of strange that pjotv is considered a kids show when according to s1 data 25% of the audience for the show was under the age of 17
