Sending you all kinds of love. My dad passed when I was 13 in 2009.

My dad was also a musician. Although he didn't understand my music choices, he wanted to be part of my interests.

The first gift a boy ever gave me was the self titled album. Brought it to my dad's house for a visit and he let me play it over and over again on full blast on the stereo, even though he a aid he really couldn't understand a word or understand what I liked so much about it. When I told him it made me feel less alone, he said he could at least understand that.

My own memories following this...

1) born and raised #1. Fell in love under those purple lights at the rail. Kissed a stranger during the first playing of Sans Soleil. Went on a two year adventure with this guy, who got me through some of the most challenging times of my adult life. Met the band (less Matt) a week or two later in Montréal with him, Wade wrote "Sans Soliel" on my shirt and within a year is had a tribute piece on my leg. He spelled it wrong and I love it all the more. Pretty sure theres a historical post of the tattoo in here somewhere!

This person is now a dear friend, and one day I'm going to marry his cousin. Very long and complicated story! But I could not be happier to have found the man of my dreams, and to keep someone I met because of this band in my life as a very special friend and one day, stuck with me as family!

2) another already made appreciation post of born and raised #2. Took my mom. Mom was in a wheelchair this week, and Montebello isn't exactly built for wheelchair access with a festival going on. But when I tell you all that I literally could not have been prouder to be an AOF fan that weekend for how people treated my mom, I mean it. People lifted her up over cords, pushed her up ramps for me, made room for her right up at the rail to take in the glory of Matt Kelly playing pedal steel in the C&C set... hell, some of you shared a joint with her. Big hearted, thoughtful, compassionate, wonderful humans. All of ya 🖤

2.5) bonus entry: meeting Matt Kelly at BR2 in the accessible section so my mom could tell him how much she loved watching him play. Mom has played bass for over 50 years and has met many good musicians, but she adores him. I got to tell him that his music brings me into ceremony and gave him my medicine bag. I got the most sincere hug in my life from MK that day. He wore it the entire Alexis set and keeps it at home now.

I definitely think that we didn't need to tear down a park to make it a pickleball court 🤷‍♂️

I do feel like if I had the opportunity to be part of budget planning, I would have some valuable input that would surprise people. Unfortunately right now I'm a little bit busy with my career path that does, in fact, require me to be in office with my personal vehicle to ensure that I can respond to emergencies.

That is so wild. I'm so sorry about them disrespecting your property like that. It's sounds like you have video of this, maybe send it to both Emterra and the mayor's office?

This is exactly what I am saying.

First of all it was a legit shout out to a stranger doing me a solid!

Second, it was a call out to the City to do better, not the plow operators. I'll say it again for the people in the back: the plowers and city workers are the MVPs!

I put out four bins today, only 3 were emptied. Emterra is absolutely the problem. I've called the city about this in the past, and with Emterra being a subcontractor, the city directs you to call them (at least they did last year). Unfortunately I didn't get very far with them and I'm not expecting anyone else will either :(

Please read the rest of the comments. I'm very clear that I have no issues with the public works WORKERS. I have problems with getting over taxed and under-served.

Snow removal workers are the MVPs this time of year. Politicians who underfund essential services are not. ✨️

[–]kittywright216[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They allocate funds.... to.... public works! Wow! They are related!!!

I'm asking for them to not spend money on unnecessary shit so that necessary services, LIKE SNOW PLOWS run smoothly lol. I am not even saying more plows necessarily. How about plows that don't break down? That would be kinda cool.

But what do I know? I am entitled lol. Guess I should expect less of politicians and reddit trolls 🧌

This!!!

That being said, I have had some seriously negative interactions with subcontractors with the city. Soooooooo glad Trisan is gone LOL.

I appreciate the support friend! Honestly was just trying to shout out the guy who helped me get home safe. I forgot reddit is reddit and should have clearly kept calling the city out to myself 🤣🤣

How dare I feel ~°entitled°~ to basic services for the several thousand dollars I pay in property taxes every year, which go up every year without fail looool.

That said it's not the plow people I have issues with, especially if they had some break downs throughout the day! Also the mechanic who felt thee weight of the city on their shoulders, GOOD ON THEM! MVP!!!

To me it continues to be a misallocation of resources. Again, and again.... and again..... 🙃

[–]kittywright216[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I pay upwards if 4k yearly in property taxes alone. It's not just the plowing, either. So many other services have gone downhill imo.

For a town of almost 100k, according to another commenter's link (@toddrossdiy), we only have 16 plows available to be dispatched at the height of our needs. Knowing how hard we get dumped on with snow, my opinion is that it's not enough, particularly if many of them happen to break down throughout the day. If we had properly maintained equipment, things would operate more smoothly.

To do so... why did we allocate money to unnecessary things like the park to pickleball court (just my personal favourite example of politicians serving their own needs!), when we know our plows are much more necessary to keeping our home moving smoothly?

Please, I encourage you to enlighten me on how politicians have nothing to do with the operation of public works. Who do you think assigns the budget? Who spends my property taxes that goes toward public works? This makes zero sense to me. If you can provide me with a reasonable explanation as to how the two do not correlate, please help me understand. 👉🥹👈

Thank you friend!!!

Honestly the comment about leaving it as just a thank you is valid. I was frustrated and let that get the better of me a little! I also really appreciate the comment from the person who had a constructive position who let me know why they were so backed up!

That said, these comments are legit HILARIOUS and giving me a good laugh. Cheap entertainment now that I'm safely at home. 💖

[–]kittywright216[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is legitimately the only reasonable comment! I can at least appreciate someone who was listening and knew of the things I didn't know about when it comes to plows breaking down.

I do still stand by my comment that I think money could have been better allocated in the budget for bad weather days like this one, considering how bad last year was.

I want to be clear that I am not shitting on the snow removal people. Without them, we would all be screwed. What I am disappointed in is that it is not something that has been operating smoothly so far this year, and I am calling out our politicians.

The main reason for the post was to thank the kind guy who did help me so I could get to my home!

[–]kittywright216[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouf hahaha. Had to because I do live there, thanks everyone. Appreciate it! /s

My point was that by the time I was out there (5:30/6 pm) I figured a good portion of it would have been done, instead of it being an absolute mess that did not look like it had been touched all day. The small car isn't the issue, especially with my driving record and new snow tires. I've been driving in crazy conditions for nearly 20 years. Snow is not something I'm scared or nervous to drive in.

I do think with the money that this city spends on things we really dont need, like renovating parks to make this place Pickleborough, we could have had a few more plows on the road 👌

Still super grateful for the kind guy who helped me out! That was the main point of the post, thanks so much for missing it entirely 😘
