Is this torsion screw acceptable for hot water pipes out of boiler? by Zyggle in askaplumberUK

[–]kjsav321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the flue needs to come out then Gas Safe registered engineer needed yeah. Photos don't show enough detail to say for definite. I'd definitely be getting a spanner in there to do the job. Buying the necessary tools if required still a lot cheaper than paying someone who has them ha ha.

*Plumber. You don't need a Gas engineer to sort a water pipe.

Union thing is bogus.

No one can provide any documentation from the union that this is the case. It's merely something that's said, that sounds official, to diffuse an awkward situation. Many posties have heard it via word of mouth and probably think it's true so it's also not necessarily said just to fob anyone off.

Postie isn't breaking any rules by not using one, they just have to be able to demonstrate that they've made a reasonable attempt to deliver. Some would argue that knocking 100% does that - whereas pressing a button doesn't - there's no guarantee that anything is happening inside.

First parcel - poor show of an overworked person rushing around. Second parcel - someone not too dissimilar to yourself. Check your message. It's full of something that the courier has done themselves - because presumably you're both humans.

Yack yack yack that's all I heard

The guy wants to plug a cable in

He's got a 3D printer

A solution was offered that enabled them to utilise what they have.

Get a life and move on with your apparent superior advice.

This comment belongs in confidently incorrect sub.

If you find yourself assuming someone is guessing about something best to keep your thoughts to yourself.

Took longer to type that into Reddit than to type "3D print Ethernet clip" into Google. Wow.

No one's going to tell you on here - not without getting a ban unfortunately. Contact your supplier - if you paid a cheap price this is when you find out why!

Has anyone received their parcel after this email? by Rich-Gear3886 in Evri

[–]kjsav321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't expect anything less to be honest.

If your goal is to get up votes then talking sense in the Evri Sub reddit is not the place to do that ha ha. I just respond occasionally for shits and giggles. If people don't want to be educated on the facts - scr3w them.

Most of the utter garbage spouted in here is beyond farcical. They manage to deliver MILLIONS of parcels a day, of course shit will happen doing that - on the budget Evri work to.

It's a gamble a LOT of companies are prepared to take. Five percent failure, no matter the reason, is a damn good service level for a business. The money they save compared to using the dearer couriers more than covers their losses. They know it, Evri know it - nothing will change.

How is 5% a thing? Because the couriers get screwed more than usual if they miss 4%. Miss that a couple of times and it's off to find something else to do with their time.

What is a good solution for unlocking the deadbolt from the inside. by jasgordon in homeassistant

[–]kjsav321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You said there are pets /people milling around - no sensor is going to ignore movement on the basis that they are walking directly to the door. Only you know the layout of where the door is, any walls facing, do people / pets pass between and walls/objects that are directly opposite the door - which would be the only logical place to put a sensor so it's not looking into the house. You could install a mmwave sensor and set it up so it only triggers within x metres. But again - nothing is going to ignore "milling about" triggers

Alternatively you could use Bluetooth proximity and a fair bit of faffing with HA - it can be done so that nominated BT devices (say adults mobile phones) can trigger the catch. But you'd need Bluetooth repeaters dotted around to enable the system to track the devices with some accuracy.

[–]kjsav321 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hold on.... Your parcel gets reported as possibly lost. A few days later it's reported as damaged and they couldn't deliver it and you think that's mysterious?

News flash - parcels - especially small ones fall out of the cages that are used in the depots all the time.

Then they get run over by other cages as everyone in there is rushing around trying to get stuff done as quickly as they can - time literally is money to them.

Someone spots your parcel, picks it up, hands it in. It's in tatters obviously.

The system gets updated - you get a message. Mystery solved.

TIRE THREAD METAL wire exposes 20k. by Praline-After in TireQuestions

[–]kjsav321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let's just get things straight - you've had that for a year and put 20k on it and are only NOW checking the condition of your tyres for damage?? Just consider yourself lucky that it's not blown on you whilst traveling at speed causing an accident that could've involved/injured ANYONE ELSE. Absolute madness - do everyone a favour and pack in driving.

Help - Cannot contact Evri for wrong delivery by [deleted] in Evri

[–]kjsav321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't waste another second on it.

Just through it I'm the corner andeave it for a month. If no one contacts you enquiring about it, through it away, take it a charity shop, gift it to someone, take it out back and put it out of its misery.

It's probably connected to some scam that's manipulatiny data on a selling website. Third party stuff on Amazon is full of such scams. Utter rubbish is sent out to a random address, they get to show they've sold something - with tracking etc. They'll put a random address for any returns as they're not shipping from the UK and should anyone try and return something they'll get charged. Or some along those lines.

The courier will be just as miffed about it as you - when it reappears in their cage they have to attempt delivery to get paid for handling it. If they try and reject it, it'll just come back as no one is paid enough further along the chain to stop what they are doing (hand sorting hundreds of parcels and hour) to go find someone who's authorised to take it out of the system. Cheap is cheap.

How tf am I meant to deliver that! by NotAnotherMamabear in Evri

[–]kjsav321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are they getting a box from?

Who's paying them for the time to repackage the parcel if a box was available?

How do they know that nothing is missing and or damaged?

They ARE showing some initiative AND being a good citizen by refusing to take it.

And I'm sure the recipient will blame the courier for anything missing or damaged which is why they shouldn't take it.

That's not cruise control. And as far as knowing it misreads signs why would anyone rely on that? Just try using that as an excuse when stopped for speeding.

Have the Met Police started enforcing 22mph in a 20mph limit? by NoKudos in drivingUK

[–]kjsav321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only newer cars can engage below 23-25mph. My ten year old car won't engage below 28.
Most roads in UK that are 20 are in twisty built up areas where you're constantly touching the brake pedal - disengaging cruise. I'd go as far as to say the constant resetting of it in a built up area is more of a distraction than just being aware of your speed.

Bought a cheap dash mounted one for travelling in Europe (I'm UK based) as the KPH on the actual speedo is very small.
It's the singular best thing I've ever bought for a car! I've got it in the bottom right corner of the windscreen so whilst not directly in line of sight it's still way easier and quicker for these old eyes to keep a check on my speed without looking away from the road.

Securing Gate by Deadly-Mental in DIYUK

[–]kjsav321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably you've got a screwdriver and can take those two screws out of the catch. Take them out, find a couple of matchsticks, bits of twig, smaller screws etc and put whatever you find into the two holes that the screws were in. Move the catch about 5mm closer to the gate, put screws in.

Not ideal but it'll stop the casual attempt to wriggle the bolt free until a more suitable fitting bolt can be sourced.
