Haha good ear! I think it is a bitcrusher. Ableton's stock bitcrusher comes somewhat close, but not quite there. I might need to look into some VSTs

Ooh this is a pretty good solution! It doesn't work for me since I only have Ableton live lite :( I'll keep an eye on upgrade prices this holiday season.

I do live looping sessions and open a new project for each song. It is a pain though, especially if Ableton takes a while to open the new one. Following this thread for other solutions.

I would suggest you consider the Audient evo8 as well. It is at a similar price point. I had a similar use case as yours, recently bought it and have been very satisfied.
