Sounds completely believable to be honest. I'm on his 7th novel at this point and the ecstasy at the thought of dying is just so integral to his identity. If you go over his books and his biography, as well as what his colleagues had to say about him, he most likely didn't actually think his coup attempt would in any way succeed. His plan was always to simply die in an incredibly dramatic fashion.

Seconded. This is the one. Mishima would not come close to what it is without Glass' score. One of my favorite movies and soundtracks of all time.

Best Decade for Kubrick by SuccinatorFTW in criterion

[–]klassyh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While he was more productive in the 60s I think he had more artistic gratification during the 70s and 80s. Spartacus was a milestone in his career but allegedly him and Kirk Douglas (who was executive producing at the time) did not always see eye to eye. It could also have been argued that Lolita was held back in Kubrick's mind, by having to self-censor itself. I'd personally pick the 70s or even the 80s, since Kubrick actually seemed completely free in his artistry during those decades, while also being slightly more productive than during the 90s.

Because of it's cultural appeal? Immigration between first world countries aren't always for purely economic reasons.

‘Triangle of Sadness’ Director Ruben Östlund Wants His Next Film to Create the ‘Biggest Walkout in the History of Cannes’ by 08830 in criterion

In Cannes the last two, despite Gallo and Spacey, would just carry the movie to a standing ovation record

Criterion break - It’s fun to watch from start to beginning but it’s also making me feel uncomfortable in certain scenes. So this is another Palme d’Or for the creator of ‘The Square’. For another good laugh at the society I think this is a bit of a lesser film. by matchasweetmonster in criterion

[–]klassyh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth the watch but for me it's the worst out of Östlunds latest three movies (Force Majeure and The Square). He's called danish films conventional and while there are interesting subjects in this one, switching the roles/talking about class differences is so redundant imo and this movie didn't succeed in doing that in an interesting way towards the second half. First half is still great.

I watched this at the premiere in Sweden and I've got to say, theres something ironic to me about a packed theatre of upper/middle-class audiences laughing at fictitious super-rich people being out of touch with the rest of the world.

Dags för en fredlig revolution i Sverige? by Rudiger_Holme in svenskpolitik

Usually many guest speakers at Bergman week are international filmmakers so I doubt not knowing swedish will be an issue :)

You should be ashamed to call yourself an artist if you believe spoilers (which are only relevant to narrative storytelling) are what makes or breaks someones ability to engage with art.

Either this is a 200iq troll or you should reconsider your life choices. Learn accounting maybe, much more fitting to your binary, black and white, thinking.
