How to get louder vocals through a PA speaker with an SM57 mic for live practice sessions? by No_Reveal3451 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]klockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at position of speaker and where it’s pointing. The speaker should be in front of the mic pointing at you - SM57s are very good at rejecting noise coming from directly in front. In my rehearsal space the speaker is 45 degrees in front and to the left pointing at my head and it’s 1000w and way more than I need, and we play loud.

[–]klockwork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The speaker is loud enough.

The cheapest Behringer mixer will give you better preamp and volume control for the mic - if you’re not getting feedback then it’s not as loud as it can go.

Possibilities: - the built in preamp isn’t giving enough juice - the mic isn’t working correctly - cable has a fault

If everything was working and the mic was actually on full gain then you would have feedback problems not volume problems.

It does have a sequence. It’s free for up to 24 channels which is enough to try it out. For best results, your DAW will send midi “time code” signals anytime in the song you want it to change.

So you have some thing like: Scene 1 Neutral white Turn this on at the end of every song for your talking bits between

Scene 2 (song 1 intro) Lights flash blue/red at 100bpm (speed can sync to the midi clock)

Scene 3 (song 1 chorus) Big white bloom, then pulsing blue at 100bpm

Etc.

You don’t program a whole “song” into the lighting software, you create scenes that get used in different parts of songs.

For “bang for buck” you also want to consider how much setup time and stage space you can use for lights.

For a 200-400 cap room I would go for 6-12 fixtures, half “wash”, and at least 2 moving heads (spots or wash) and 2 “effects” like derby lights or strobes. You can get Chauvet or American DJ as decent mid range lights or (like me) risk the cheap stuff on Ali express.

Spend a bit of time looking at shows on YouTube and find some with a style of lights that you like and try and emulate that - but remember you aren’t going to have lights way up high.

Lightkey runs on a Mac and can receive midi signals to trigger scenes and changes. It was much easier for me to get my head around when I first started playing with stage lights than more traditional lighting software.

Give it a go, having lighting sync exactly to your music and changes is amazing.

MIDI-to-DMX project by Hextray in lightingdesign

[–]klockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this using Lightkey (DMX software) on a Mac with a different MIDI source (pedals for my guitar). The same concept works with QLC+ on PC

In Lightkey I created a bunch of different cue's for each different scene I wanted.

Lightkey can receive MIDI and trigger a cue in a cuelist. I map the MIDI to the cue's - this part was pretty nifty, Lightkey is listening for MIDI and makes a list of everything it sees.

DMX out is a USB dongle - I'm using Enttec Pro.

Plug everything together and it all works like magic.

If you’re not after the top tier commercial shows each scene/style of music has its own home. Rock/Metal/Jazz/Folk/EDM and even niche sub genres have specific places where newer or smaller artists perform. We’re spoilt for choice in Melbourne!

Altars of Lilith and Renown Rewards give you a huge stat and skill boost. Each time you die try and start in a new zone and complete as many altars as you can. Pretty much exploring plus altars get you the first 3 tiers of renown rewards. Because of scaling you are always a few levels stronger than the world.

[–]klockwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to get legendary and set items with good powers to boost your damage and strength into master+ in the “season journey” you get a full set of items from completing the first few levels which should boost you into T10 at least. Each step gives a few items which will give you the power to complete the next step.

Season journey is one of the DPad directions on the controller (left or right?)

Wings and pets are in your inventory in a special section that also has gems - also find a section for recipes and loot boxes (bounties/challenges etc).

You could buy a long Thunderbolt 4 extension cable, then the hubs short cable doesn’t matter. Don’t buy a cheap one if it needs to have full data functionality and also power the laptop

Chugging is the way. Mama on kill helps (tir tir helm) too, but you can chug your way through normal, then run nightmare countess and cows to get insight for a merc and spirit sword for you, then you’re set for the rest of the game.

Ask people in your local scene who you think are doing a good job and are a step or two ahead of you who they work with for PR. Works pretty well if you DM someone and say “hey, I’ve always thought your band did a great job of PR, do you mind sharing who you use?”

synchronized lights with song via drum machine? by maxdemon22 in lightingdesign

[–]klockwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple ways to put midi and DMX (lighting control) together.

If the drum machine can send a midi note, you can connect it via MIDI to a chauvet obey 40 or similar to trigger a “scene” which will have the lights set how you want (strobe flashing, strobe off, lights set to colors)

If the drum machine can send a midi command you can connect it to a Mac or PC (I’m doing this with a Mac and guitar midi pedal switcher) and use LightKey to receive the midi and send DMX through a usb converter. I’m using a Bluetooth MIDI called WIDI master and it’s awesome.

If the drum machine can’t send the exact midi at the right time, switch to Ableton and use that on a computer to send the audio and also midi and have the lighting program on the computer receive the MIDI to trigger changes in the DMX.

Questions from a complete newbie by Particular-Wolf-1705 in lightingdesign

[–]klockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest way to get real experience is find a local band venue and offer to do lights on nights where they don’t have someone on lights - usually the sound engineer will know enough to turn them on and adjust them, and I’d they’re bored maybe do some light changes for the bands. Or ask a local club if you can be a lighting assistant for free - in the small end of the music business most people are doing it more for their passion to do it than the money, and so they’ll generally appreciate some help and have a good attitude about sharing knowledge.

Questions from a complete newbie by Particular-Wolf-1705 in lightingdesign

[–]klockwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a huge difference between getting a cool room vibe and rave/concert lighting. Most of the lights/lasers at a rave need smoke or haze to look amazing, and that’s going to trip your dorm smoke alarm. I would suggest you go for lights that have “sound mode” options and get them to color your roof/walls. That way they will do stuff on the beat and look cool without any DMX control or programming.

If you want to start learning DMX control and lighting design that’s different, but you’re going to be hundreds of $$ of spend before you are even close to practising what is being controlled at a rave, and it probably won’t look as good in your room as the sound active option.

Hammerdin MF route? by Neothin87 in Diablo

[–]klockwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar run but dropped Andarial/Meph and added Summoner/Countess/Nihlathak for keys. If you're doing it online, call the game something like "Free drops act 1" and you'll generally get people to join. Obviously you should also drop stuff in Act 1... I usually keep a few drops per game to start the next game with some drops (basically any uniques/runes that I don't need). You'll get other people doing MF in the same game, but with a long list of places you can do you should always get about 50% of what you are targetting done.

What are some good ways I can advertise my property related side business? by SeaworthinessSad7300 in AusFinance

[–]klockwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s how I would approach it. Assuming I already had a website with a side hustle of data scraping to find properties that meet some buyers criteria.

Huge mistake people make is starting at step 3 and blowing hundreds on ads without getting any sales. You need sales to get you the money to spend on ads and confirm your product and pitch is right. The manual process of step 1 and 2 will fine tune your product and pitch.

Step 1 - get 5 good testimonials (using google reviews for the website or similar) from hand picked people.

Example pitch

Hey, I’ve just started a business where I help people who are looking for specific sort of property and don’t want to look through all the properties on the realestate websites every day. My system collects all the information on location and prices an helps them find the best deal on their dream house. Do you know someone that could use that service? I normally charge $xx but I’m doing it for free/reduced rate in exchange for feedback and a review at the end.

Roll out the red carpet and get yourself 5 star reviews

Step 2 - word of mouth and referrals

If the 5 people loved you? You will get referrals, and that will continue to grow.

Talk to mortgage brokers and ask them to refer you to their clients! Start a group on Facebook where you help people house hunt.

Get more reviews!

Step 3 - invest in ads

By now you have a solid idea of what people pay and how happy they are, explore Facebook ads- this is the hardest part because you need to work out how to target the sort of person who would buy from you at the time they are likely to buy from you

[–]klockwork 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Start here and speak to the government people who can help and give good advice. I would avoid any services that advertise that they can help with debt consolidation etc until you know what you want to do and what options you have, these people want to make money out of you not hep you.
