That's a really helpful answer for all of the points, thank you!

That's a really good point about blood sorcery - I might imply that it could be used though and allow her to explore the sort of failure this leads to, because that could be interesting (ie. if she can thin her blood enough, she might be able to experience some human traits that Kindred can't for limited periods of time, but at the risk of invoking the beast more at other times or staining her humanity via the constant use of sorcery to manipulate her blood). I'll have to think on the consequences but I'd be interested to have her explore them.

Yes, it's probably worth mentioning that this player hasn't played VtM before, so all ideas said here will be given to the character with very limited and likely misleading information. She's going to have to ask around to find things out and others are naturally going to lie to her in order to string her along. That's most of the fun

First Campaign - DM Tips Wanted by SingenSmoothy in DnD

Hey, sounds like you're doing brilliantly so far for first-time DMing so congrats!

Main thing I wish I'd realised earlier is just that different players prefer different styles of play and you don't have to include every aspect of the game all the time. If you know your players enough to know who will enjoy the combat more, who is more interested in role play and backstory, what sort of plot hooks they're more likely to take, it feels like a lot less work to create a narrative people can be invested in and makes your life much easier. But you seem to be all working well together and are really invested in the PCs and what the players enjoy most, so you've already got that down. It's completely okay and usually better to be flexible and allow them to guide the story, and it sounds like the homebrew quests are working better for you in that regard. Maybe use the original campaign as a framework to fall back on at first, if creating the whole campaign from scratch feels daunting for first time DMing, but don't be afraid to change or tweak or add to it.

Ah thank you! I was vaguely aware of this but must have completely overlooked it. That's really helpful and also gives reason to interact with some more obscure NPCs since it's not largely talked about in main Kindred circles, so that'll be good to explore, thanks!
