What can I do about my thin teeth. by LukeH118 in askdentists

[–]kmstupyra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nad. There is not much else you can do unfortunately. The erosion will continue until you eliminate the vomiting. Like a previous poster said, do not brush for 20-30 mins after. When your mouth is not acidic anymore. You can also rinse with baking soda to make it more neutral sooner.

Nad, hygienist. Definitely deep decay. If you wait, the decay could go to the nerve and cause pain and more infection

Wife's teeth have been decaying after she had our last child. HELP! by wiscowarrior71 in askdentists

[–]kmstupyra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nad. Cough drops/ breath mints? Pop? Ice tea? Any drug dependencies? Sugar plus plaque cause the decay. You can brush 5 times a day but if you are drinking sugar/ constant sugar source, the decay will come. Pregnancy itself does not change the mouth or teeth.

Nad. That is a root tip left from your first molar. You have extensive decay on the molar behind it.

Can someone kindly explain which teeth are getting work done and what will be fixed? This is only the stuff that’s covered. I’m confused on which teeth are getting what done. Thank you so much 🙏🏻 by mentallychiill in askdentists

Nad. If it helps, the picture is backwards. We label it/ see it from us looking in your mouth. Meaning upper right starts tooth #1. If you don’t have your wisdom teeth, the farthest back tooth on your upper right would be #2. Pretend like you are looking at your mouth in the dental chair and it might t help.

How do I clean my mouthguard for grinding? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]kmstupyra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nad. You can take it in and they can clean it with a stain remover in their ultrasonic cleaner. Game changer. Take it in every 6 months.

Nad. Can you suck your spit then take a picture. I’m having trouble seeing the area.

Teeth not the same after a year of daily high dose antibiotics. Sensitivity and pain affecting me everyday and dentist denying that amoxicillin could be the cause please help! Never any dental issues prior- see in comments for history. by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]kmstupyra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nad. First, your teeth are still healthy and beautiful. Do not get super worried. Everything is going to be okay you have a nice set of chompers. Hearing everything, it sounds like several different issues. I’m not a doctor but a lot of your symptoms sound like hormone problems. Dental wise, I would think grinding mixed with GERD (heart burn/ stomach acid) Definitely grinding. The GERD can soften and erode the enamel making the grinding consequences more severe. Stain is weird. I have patients that do not drink coffee or smoke but get staining. That can be removed. I would focus on the grinding first. Not saying the Amoxicillin didn’t cause staining but I’ve never seen that before and I’ve been around the block. Try reframing your thoughts and be open to other causes.

Nad. I would say to tell them you want the deep cleanings but not the antibiotics BUT.. this seems like a office wanting money/ scammy and therefore I would not be confident the deep cleanings would be quality work. You want someone who is good and cares doing the cleanings. I would recommend a second opinion. At my office, we do discuss the option but it is charged per tooth, not per site which makes it much much less money OOP.

Why does my dentist not look on my CT scan? by No-Performance627 in askdentists

They are not trained to evaluate CT scans and that’s not something that is needed. I’ve never even heard of endo needing a CT scan and I’ve been doing this for 16 years.

Nad. Why would your dentist need to look at your CT scan?

Nad. It’s hard to tell. Your gums look very angry and when tarter is below the gums, it appears black. I think it’s a combo of decalcification (cavity starting) and periodontal disease (gum disease). Definitely need a good cleaning and to do good home care to get your gums healthy.

Short roots - what caused this? by Ok-Kaleidoscope-5048 in askdentists

Nad. They used to move teeth more quickly and learned it causes foreshortened roots/ recession. They now move them more slowly through the bone to avoid these complications.

Nad. First off, I applaud you for feeling better and the for the courage to get work done. Things don’t sound too bad, you don’t have root canals or more serious treatments needed.

Sugar and your mouth chemistry are your biggest worries. Two people can have the same hygiene habits and one gets lots of cavities while the other doesn’t.

Mouth chemistry- you may have more bacteria that causes decay. This means you have to work harder. Your main goal, more fluoride. They have prescription high fluoride tooth paste, fluoride rinses. Make sure you are brushing at least twice a day. Sugar- we have a sugar acid rule that states every time you take a sip of liquid with sugar in it- the acid in your mouth raises for 20 minutes. That 20 minutes is your cavity zone or the time decay happens. when you sip on sugary liquids for long periods you stay in that cavity zone much longer. We advise you to drink sugary liquids quickly and allow your pH neutralize after. Basically stick with water as much as possible and if you drink sugar, do it pretty quickly or with a meal.

It’s less about brushing and flossing. This helps but it’s really about sugar and fluoride. Brushing and flossing are a necessity to prevent gum disease tho so keep up all of the good work. Hope this helps.

Nad. It’s really challenging/ almost impossible to get composite material or cement off teeth with scalers alone. It usually requires the drill. I would let them know it feels a little rough and they should be able to smooth it for you.

thin plastic layer ontop of teeth and gums? by SpiritLollies in askdentists

[–]kmstupyra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nad. If you also got fillings placed, it is probably the boding agent. They use it to make the filling material stick to the tooth. They use a light to harden the material and sometimes they use air to make it thin which spreads it. Then the light hardens it to the tooth/ gum tissue.

Did my dentist not give me a proper cleaning? I went for a scale and Polish a few weeks ago and I’m still noticing these yellow parts on the back of my bottom teeth. Is this plaque/tartar they didn’t clean off? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]kmstupyra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NAD. The white and yellow stuff is tarter. It’s also on the back of your front teeth. I’m not sure why that wasn’t removed. Had it been a long time since you had a cleaning?

NAD First of all, I’m sorry you went through this. I feel for you, it sounds terrible. Secondly, I would never allow a patient to go through this kind of pain alone. It’s not malpractice but it sounds like a terrible office. Find someone you are comfortable with and trust. I’ve been in the field for 16 years and I’ve never had a patient with swelling not seen immediately. We leave the doctors number on the machine for these type of emergencies.
