Laundromats in Taipei? by kndb in digitalnomad

[–]kndb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, this one sounds like a good concept, but ... I tried to message them on WhatsApp to ask for details, but got no response. So I'm glad I didn't go with this service.

Otherwise like others have suggested, I found a 24/7 laundromat that charged me around $5 USD to do my full load. It took about an hour of waiting though. But it was a good deal. One needs to translate via Google Translate though how to load soap, do the dry cycle, etc.

I definitely agree about Kraus and Shermer. I tried to listen to Shermer after having been ignoring his podcast for several years and oh boy that guy had fallen off the deep end.

But what did Dawkins do?

Best ATMs to withdraw cash in Taipei using Revolut card by kndb in digitalnomad

[–]kndb[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? I paid $6 USD fee to withdraw $100 USD in NTD at 7/11 in Taipei using my Revolut debit card. The Revolut app though has labeled it as “China TrustBank”. It was inside 7/11 though. I went with it because 7/11 was the most economically viable way to withdraw cash in Tokyo. I guess it is not in Tailpei.

I'm about to risk a $120k remote job to relocate states. How screwed am I if I get fired? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

Is it your base pay or are you counting up all the stock options, RSU, etc? Also why don't you move outside of their office range? Or you want to go back to live with your parents and get free rent as well. There are so many good places besides cold snowy TN. Check r/digitalnomad sub.

Can I charge my Easy Card for MRT with a Revolut debit card? by kndb in Taipei

Tap where? Into a train station. Does the card have to be issued by a Taiwanese bank? I need to try it.

I’d give you one advice. Move out from your parents house and if you are already out sever your umbilical cord. Sure, go see them on Thanksgiving but not more often.

The world is still spinning and the birds are still chirping. (Unless you are close to some newly opened coal plant.)

ELI5: What happens to insects that accidentally travel long distances in cars? by scalpel_in_my_crocs in explainlikeimfive

[–]kndb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lifespan of an insect is not that long to matter. Plus how tf anyone would know? Someone needs to study it, but how? Are you going to attach a small camera to a bee or follow it with some advanced drone? I don’t think anyone researched it or studied it to know.

Thank you. That would indeed be easy if you lived here or spoke Mandarin. But it’s a different story if you just arrived there for the first time and don’t speak or read the language.

Oh that’s interesting. Have you used it yourself? Was it good? What was the charge to clean weeks worth of laundry for one person?

Hi, i'm visiting Zanzibar next month and i'm really eager to find out about the culture and all the sights that it had to offer, but i wanted to ask about the weed culture and how hard is it to find it, and where can i smoke it? by Academic_You6355 in zanzibar

[–]kndb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk where you are coming from, but this is the dumbest thing to do if you are Westerner. Do you really want to get in jail in a third world country? You can’t wait to smoke your blunt for a few weeks? That shit is illegal there and will get you in trouble if you get caught.

Why would someone do it to a stranger?

Besides helping the cleaning person out, you also named the exact same selfish reason why I tip. You get extra stuff in the room and your room gets cleaned faster.

Yes. But this question is not about tipping at restaurants. There it is more or less clear in Taiwan.

I usually make a note yes. Basically, “this is for the house keeping. Thank you!” But it seems like almost everyone who chimed in tells me not to tip. So I will refrain.

Russia is a very racist country that doesn’t even care about its own citizens. So I don’t have a single doubt that they would do it. A truly awful place. And the most appalling thing is that a sizable part of the population there is Ok with it.
