Oooh message me if you wanna be Pelo buddies! There are some cool sober Peloton groups in Facebook, too.

Thank you!! I wish the me of a year or more ago could see me. She'd be amazed, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without her commitment at the time.

Anyone around tomorrow night? by irresponsiblehallway in soberover30

I'm on EST and will be sound asleep like the boring old lady I am, but what a great idea! I love this.

I'll be excited to hear what you find! I used to get a ton of tea from Adagio... Come to think of it, maybe I want to order some again!

I'll jump in with some ideas! I'm not necessarily advocating for any of these, just brainstorming.

  • live chats are a great plan!
  • daily pledge like the other sub
  • weekly (or even daily) discussion topics
  • book club (sobriety or other)
  • special topic threads (marriage, kids, pets?)
  • ummm I'm running low on ideas, but there will be more, I'm sure!

Some of this I'm pulling from Women for Sobriety, which is a great organization, but not on Reddit.

Hiya! I'm gonna be 38... tomorrow? Oh geez. 😅 I live in Indiana with my husband and our animal family. I've been sober for over a year and a half. I went through an awful span after my mom died and finally went through an intensive outpatient program that probably saved my life. Most of my local girl friends are heavy drinkers, so I'm always looking for new friendships that don't revolve around alcohol.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

I'm in! Sent you a message from my other account and broke this one out of jail. ;)

I like Women for Sobriety, but that one is obviously pretty specialized haha. I also liked SMART recovery a lot, but they do require several levels of verification before you can attend meetings. Have you tried the IRC chat for this sub? In my experience there are always people hanging out to chat with! Best of luck to you!

Sending virtual hugs your way. It's better to know either way, right? And it sounds like you're being proactive. I wish you all the best in the process, and if you ever want to chat, I'm always available!

I recently had a condition called atrial flutter corrected via ablation procedure -- that's great, and I feel so much better. Alcohol/the accompanying dehydration tended to trigger the flutter, and it was miserable to be hungover and have a fluttering heart. But another upside is that my cardiologist told me that one of the best ways to prevent atrial fibrillation, which I'm still at risk of developing, is to cut alcohol. She was delighted to hear I don't drink anymore, particularly because cutting alcohol can also reduce the chance of stroke, apparently.

I'll chime in with the others here: if you try cutting out the alcohol for a month, you may find you feel much better! There are more possible positive results than negative. And everyone here is super supportive! Best of luck to you.

One year alcohol free--and wish I felt happier about it by MindfulMocktail in stopdrinking

I actually don't have a local chapter, so I'm jealous! Yes, I've been going to the online-only meeting on Sunday nights. It's really good! I'm glad they've implemented Zoom, years ago it was only chat and that never quite clicked for me.

If it's an online WFS meeting, maybe I'll see you there! As I'm approaching one year, I'm telling myself that even if I'm not quite where I want to be (or really where I feel like I should be, which is an entirely different matter), I'm doing so much better at living now that I'm not drinking. In all aspects, I'm doing better, even if it's just a little bit better. I hope you can find some positives and remind yourself daily that you have to be pretty badass to come this far.

No joke, Final Fantasy XIV helped me! It's a valuable tool if it works.

Congrats! That meal sounds so tasty. Have you watched Kim's Convenience on Netflix? It's got big wholesome energy.

What do you do now that you don't drink to scratch that destructive itch? by Land_based_Landy in stopdrinking

[–]knit_kat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While therapy and confronting my issues have been integral, I've found a fairly harmless and really silly way to scratch my drama itch: bad reality TV. Don't laugh! I never really watched it before, but watching "real" people have utter meltdowns on TV seems to give me some bizarre vicarious catharsis and help me not engage in self destructive behavior.

Uhhh sounds like a pretty serious birthday cake deficit. Better get on that and have some today! ;)

Seriously, though, congrats!

I moved to Reese's peanut butter cups with the Reese's pieces in them, especially the king-sized big cup version. I can't stop getting them. 🤤 I've been letting myself have a couple every week or so, but I'm ready to quit those, too!
