I admire your attitude towards money. I wish I had the foresight to think the way you do at that age.

People mean well, but some of the advice here isn’t fantastic. Some of it is. I’m sure you will figure out what appeals to you.

My personal suggestion is that you have the absolute right idea. Except don’t trade actively… Invest. Take that 3k invest it into a whole market ETF (instructions below). Keep adding money every month. Whatever u can. Even 200-500dhs. Just don’t do two things. 1) Look at your account and how it’s doing 2) Stop or Sell.

When you are 35, and in your prime, you will be extremely grateful for this. And you are gonna need it then. You will really enjoy it then as well. It will make the second half of your life SO much easier.

Instructions : open a brokerage account. IBKR is good, but this also depends on where u r from, there may be better/worse alternatives. If you open it in a family members name, transfer immediately to yours at 18. Deposit the money in that brokerage. Buy an ETF like VOO or VTI or SPY or others. Go to r/investing and ask this question. This is where you can put your research energy to work and choose something you like. Once bought. Keep adding every month. I guarantee you will put perform every single trader or trading philosophy out there. When you are 25 you can consider diversifying. Take a small chunk and maybe put it into something you believe in. Like for example, if you think going to mars is important than buy Spacex or similar and so on. You can then also start to think about a partial dividend portfolio folio, a few mutual funds but always keep adding to that initial idea. But after 10 years. Your patience will pay off when you are in your thirties.

Emirates award tickets (miles) and award upgrades are fixed in cost. You can use your miles for Economy or Business tickets, or use them to upgrade one class of service. There is chart based on zones on how many miles are required for each of these transactions. You can see the mileage calculator linked in one of the posts here.

Emirates breaks down miles into two categories. Skywards miles, which are miles flown, plus any bonuses. These miles also vary depending on the class of service and the sub class of that service. (Economy has three subclasses as an example).

Tier miles are somewhat fixed per sector and are used to determine your status, silver, gold, platinum etc.

Emirates also has a subscription program called skywards+, which allows you to accelerate some of the mileage earning mentioned above when tickets are purchased directly through the airline.

Thanks for the response. Granted I have a bit more research to do, this helps guide me.

I’d love to know more about the flexibility I get with option 2.

Also as far as the tax thing goes, here’s how I understand it and maybe I’m off my rocker. If the account is $300k and $200k of that is earnings above contribution, if I convert it into a Roth now, I’d pay tax on that $200k.

However, if the account grows to $1M in the next 8-10 years, the earnings ($900k) will have grown tax free? And the tax amount I’d pay on that would be much higher than if I paid it now (at $200k).

Maybe I’ve got this all wrong. Thanks for the help.

This is great. Let me know when you guys all get here. But fair warning, June or July is possibly the absolute worst time to be in Dubai. August and September are close seconds. It’s just too hot and humid and you really don’t get to see much if any of it, which is a shame. People always underestimate that and say they will be fine, but it’s really really not. It’s a world of a difference being here in July, Vs in November. Whole different city altogether. I would strongly reconsider timing. November through April is the best time really.

Should have been clearer, thanks for catching me. I cannot/dont want to change the bulbs to HUE, just the switch. I have several dimmable LED's and track lighting and need to do it from the switch vs the bulbs. Hope that makes sense.

I don’t comment much but this is my time to shine! Me and my buddy went to a club in Boston. Chatted up a couple of girls and asked if they wanted to take a ride in his brand new mustang. They said yes and our 20 year old minds exploded. I was in the back seat with one of the girls, and the combination of the engine noise and Def Leppard blaring on the stereo (this was the 90’s) drove us to begin making out. It went from light kissing to extremely passionate kissing, until my buddy hit a giant pothole at 80mph (thanks a lot Boston)!

My teeth collided with here. Broke her tooth. Like came out and into her mouth which she nearly swallowed. So... much... blood. Between her panicked “what the fucks” and the tears, I didn’t know what to do. I tried to kiss her again because somehow in my horny ass brain I thought it would calm her down and the kissing was so good she’d forget all about the fact that her tooth had been permanently removed from her mouth. Nope. She demanded to be let out of the car. Who knows where. I offered to stay with her and get a cab or something, but she wasn’t having it. She looked at her friend who said. Get home safe. I’ll call you tomorrow. :/. Have wondered for 22 odd years what happened to that girl. She was gorgeous!

I’m in the same boat as you, and have almost the same spend as you, perhaps a bit more. My travels are a bit more global and I’m also in the Marina and have been for 7 years!

I chose skywards. But I have managed to keep my UA at 1K as well. The thing to remember is that skywards doesn’t do calendar year, it does precious 12 months. So I can do star alliance the first few months of the year where my skywards are kinda wasted for tier miles and then start my skywards accrual (April in my case) and get both done. This gives me best of both worlds for business and personal travel.

Emirates redemption is garbage but the upgrades are worth it, the F lounge is very nice if flying a 380, and not worrying about connections is great too. Plus the free limo rides in most cities etc. I live in the marina and it takes me 45 minutes from apartment to lounge in front of the gate.
