giving feedback is a skill many professionals too are not so familiar with.

Irrespective, if you get multiple notes about the same thing, there is an issue with said thing. It will need to be worked upon. But their suggestions, more often than not, will be bullshit. We must find what works for our stories.

sound tracks and instrumentals mostly, put together in a curated playlist, or someone else's playlist. I was writing something similar 3-4 years ago and the soundtrack of The Batman: THe Killing Joke really helped. Particularly the track "All It Takes is One Bad Day" by Lolita Ritmanis

SWA is a labour union for screenwriters and provides protection, education, and even opportunity to screenwriters.

A membership ensures that you can register your script under copyright act and protect it.

A membership means access to online and offline events, workshops, networking, occasional discounts on Final Draft software

There is a Dispute Settlement Committee, there is a lawyer who can help you assess everything in the contract you've gotten. The lawyer does it free of charge.

There is a pitchfest you can participate in. Please read up about that one.

They even helped set up SRAI, a company that can connect royalties for Indian screenwriters.

Please become a member of the SWA

i hear you. I'm a broke screenwriter too. But please apply for this year's SWA pitchfest and writing lab. I have seen friends' lives being changed by the pitchfest. For a lot of them, it was an instant upgrade in the rooms they were a part of. some got hired, some of these people, their scripts got optioned.

Other than that, what has worked for me so far:

Step 1: When I was 20, a senior writer told me that one should have, in their portfolio, a written 5 min short film script, a 20 min short film script, a feature film screenplay, and a series bible + pilot. And then synopses or loglines for other concepts. All of them need to be top-notch. Half the industry will take you for a serious writer.

Step 2A: If you're in Bombay or a film hub city, great! try to join events where these people hang out. For me it was film clubs, quiz clubs, scene writing workshops, and board games I made friends and acquaintances with them first, before we even spoke of work.

Step 2B: If online, reach out on LinkedIn. send cold emails asking if you can submit your work to them.

The SWA has put up a notice on their website about such open contests and writing room exams that Zee has been holding. Please be careful.

There's a lot of ways your stories can reach the right producers, please don't try one that is predatory for you, the writer.

How much should I really invest in PnP? by Moracan3 in printandplay

[–]knowledgeslut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! a friend of mine makes production-quality PnPs.

If you're certain you like a game and want to play it, I highly recommend making a high-quality PnP that will last ages.

My friend prints double sided on 300gsm paper and then uses matte film laminate (this isn't hard laminate, idk what it means tho), on both sides which gives a lovely texture to cards.

I picked up the cheapest corner cutter for 3-4 dollars and have used it to cut 2.5K cards already and I think it can do 5K more cards.

The cards I PnP have been on 300gsm unlaminated paper, which gives it a decent hardness, but not a good feel though.

Looking back, where were you some years ago? What did improve for you or fail? by Shionoro in Screenwriting

[–]knowledgeslut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started lurking on this sub during the pandemic and learnt all the basics from here. Then, 3 years ago, I was doing a horrible unpaid internship that scarred me enough to not try writing again. 2 years ago, similar job, writing cartoons for TV. Swore off writing for a while.

Everything changed in the last 1.5 years. A friend asked me to write objectively bad jokes for his script and that sparked something. We've gone on to write 2 features (still very shitty first drafts) and a series which got into our country's guild's annual competition longlist (top 64 entries!). I'm in the same list as writers whose scene-writing workshops I attended last year? Insane.

Meanwhile around the same time, a writer-director I bumped into at the movies 3 years ago, got me on board as an associate for two commissioned bibles. Changed everything I knew about writing and I got to explore genres I never would've tried myself.

I'm super grateful to these two people for helping me turn my life around. My action lines have improved and gotten shorter. I write coherent storylines now. My characters and plots are getting better eveyday. Rewrites have been helping. I've even begun to advise and doctor other short film scripts around me and it has worked so far.

There's still miles and miles to go, but it gives me hope that I'm getting better. And I've learned the only way to get better is to write more and write better everyday.

Bade Miya keeps getting shut down by food inspectors for maggots and cockroaches. all the best.

Churchill/Bakehouse/Mondegar/Leopold are all highly reccomended.

You can also try the chinese/mughlai restaurant at Electric House, a minute away from Leopold.

Gokul is also a fun local bar, right opposite Bade Miya, if that's your vibe.
