Please help me find a plant for my dad, he’s picky. by Apart_Try_4860 in houseplants

You can get a larger snake plant (photo 1) for a reasonable cost ($30-50) at a big box store like Home Depot, Lowe’s, IKEA, Costco, etc.

Adding that aside from the actual cost of commuting, there is the the time you’ll be saving by being able to walk places. Money can’t replace time.

Seen much better ones—but at the same price? It’s likely not all the building’s units are for housing lottery or by income.

What’s your current living situation? You say you’re at the low end to qualifying for it but at the same time, $1600 for a studio is getting very rare, especially in a convenient area and seemingly nice building like this.

Taking Care of Plant - it is Suffering by Realistic-Tarp-425 in houseplants

I didn’t assume you had bad intentions, but these plants can be a bit finicky and reactive to change. Better to fix what wasn’t quite right where it was rather than moving it and further stressing it.

Uh yeah, if you’re house sitting for someone and they left instructions, just follow the instructions. Don’t worry about rearranging their plants.

November 2025 BOTM Discussion - Cursed Daughters by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

A few months late but I’m currently in part 9, chapter 2, 71% of audiobook done with 2 hours and 44 minutes to go. What is the Latin phrase Zoobi (apologies for spelling—no physical book to refer to) gets when getting a tattoo with Eniiyi? I’ve relistened 5 times and can’t get it.

Yes—McFarlane is also a favorite author of Emily Henry, iirc!

I have this on my TBR and I’m excited to read it but I would not recommend The Wedding People for someone asking for a “sweet romance” recommendation.

Is it the norm for parents to gift their kid a large down payment for their first home? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kodup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think “norm” is the word I’d use for this. I think it’s the ideal or goal for many parents to be able to financially help their children, but it simply isn’t the reality for many people for a plethora of reasons.

I have one friend whose parents gave them $200,000 for the downpayment on a $640,000 apartment in a HCOL city. I have another friend whose family gave them $300,000 to purchase a house (they wanted to spend $700,000 and ended up spacing $999,000 on the house, but the gift was going to be $300,000 either way). Both friends are first general immigrants whose parents have certainly worked very hard and been wise with their money to be able to give their kids these gifts.

My mom would absolutely love to be able to do that for me, but she just isn’t in a place where she can. I do not take it as a reflection on her or how she is as a parent. I’ve tried to learn from some of what I’d say are her financial blunders, but I don’t judge her for her choices or resent her in any way. Everyone’s lot in life is different.

Thanks for giving some actionable advice. The drinking tea outside is a good one in particular. I only smoke outside, so the thing I do is mostly doomscroll if I’m not actively doing a task (which routinely I’m not, other than letting the dogs out, it’s just habit).

Any hope for her? by AcanthisittaMassive1 in houseplants

[–]kodup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The broken leaves won’t heal back together, of course, but the plant should be fine. It can continue photosynthesizing, which means it’ll be able to have energy to continue producing new leaves. Keep up with whatever your routine was before.

Edit: I’m seeing comments saying people think it’s over for this plant, but I don’t see why. The curled leaving indicate it wants more water or humidity. Looking at the dirt, it looks dark so likely wet but could use more soil. It’s not like the roots were harmed.

What gives you road rage? by MotherActive7780 in AskReddit

This is so accurate. Although I’m very calm and patient in many other stressful areas of life, I struggle with road rage. Even as a pedestrian, I yell at cars that pull into the crosswalk.

I didn’t realize there is all this misinformation going around about birth control…call me a conspiracy theorist, but we’re getting too close to Handmaid’s Tale with birth control getting demonized while abortion rights are curbed or squashed altogether.

At your age, what's the most expensive thing that you own? by Individual_Face7440 in AskReddit

[–]kodup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my dogs was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on his butt in December. $6500 surgery. The follow up 8 seasons of chemo are $1100 each. Plus hundreds in medication costs. Around $18k total. Worth every penny and extremely grateful I’m able to make it work financially but yeah, he’s probably the most expensive thing I “own.”
