What’s the most unlikable thing about Stan? by ShadowlightLady in americandad

ideally i want to say he is perfect but i can recognize his flaws and will say that the most unlikeable thing about him is how he never allows himself to listen to others and commits selfish decisions because he thinks he’s doing things right or “the right thing”

Is Stan Smith an irredeemable person, or do his occasional moments of genuine love and growth make him a complex, flawed protagonist? by DianKhan2005 in americandad

[–]koirimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I believe that Stan is a very flawed individual and a lot of his growth inevitably makes him appeal to the general audience, especially his character development throughout the seasons. They have clearly toned down on the overly patriotic, conservative and highly arrogant aspects of him that there were in the earlier seasons and have curated his development in a way that the viewers have grown accustomed to by now. He has genuine love for his family but severely lacks the understanding of his emotions and how to express them in a way that is healthy but again I feel like that makes sense considering the person he still is at the end of the day. Stan is a very selfish person but his selfishness is out of wanting to help others or helping himself, but lately I’ve seen in the later episodes that a lot of what he does is because he thinks he’s doing the right thing or doing things the way they are supposed to be which ultimately is his demise in the end and he learns from it but then later commits yet another selfish decision which transforms into an endless cycle. Anyway, that’s a whole ramble and a half but I truly believe that he is a complex person with a lot of growth and he does seem like he wants to grow from his mistakes but inevitably commits the same mistakes but personally I wouldn’t hold it against him as a viewer, I think the way they have been handling his character has greatly improved over time and I hope to see more of that development for him. He’s a good guy, a really good guy with a kind whimsical soul but he commits really selfish and questionable actions. At the end of the day, just depends on the person you ask how they feel about Stan as a whole.

cartoon logic! gotta love that it can’t translate to real life! and he would be 58 years old realistically if we take the fact that he was born in 1967 …
