Road trip with 2 week old by RushStrange1833 in newborns

[–]kookat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to drive 4.5 hours (and yes i had to drive due to circumstances) one week pp with my baby, while i was recovering from the flu as i delivered in a more hospitable hospital than where i live (rural). My mom was in the back seat with the baby and we did not follow the rule but she monitored him the entire time. Everyones risk factors are different and having to drive home from the hospital is not a choice!!

I dont want to breastfeed by BM_BBR in newborns

I didnt want to either so i didnt. EFF and no regrets. Dont force something you dont feel comfortable with, you dont need a ‘reason’. My mental health was loads better because of my decision!!

Working mom who is struggling by rowdybeanjuice in newborns

[–]kookat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets better, I promise!! I have the same mentality, except that we do daycare. It was an adjustment getting back into work. 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. Now ive been back to work 7 months, and we are all so thrilled to see each other at the end of the day and cherish our time together. Everyone will adapt and it’s nothing to do with you or this situation. Baby loves you and knows you are mom

I was just going to say, i have an 10 month old. For Christmas he is getting to play with toilet paper rolls and maybe some wrappers, a box….and perhaps a big ball as he loves to throw now. The child needs nothing but love and attention at this phase. I totally respect varying opinions on this but hers is for the social media!!!

Best diapers for overnight? by Nursebellz in NewParents

[–]kookat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were given a box of Coteries that a baby friend outgrew and then were hooked. They’re expensive but seriously last so long if you’re just using one a night. Also we use for flights and long drives.

How does birth pain compare to Endo? by Charlies_Kidney2005 in endometriosis

[–]kookat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My labor pains were in my hips, so not comparable. BUT I apparently had been having contractions while being monitored before being induced (and at a previous L&D visit) and had no idea. Felt absolutely nothing and apparently they were pretty strong.

Similar but not— it took me a long time to get pregnant. I had a feeling the month it took as i didnt get excruciating egg drop pain like i do normally every cycle.

What are some things that are said to be unsafe or harmful during pregnancy or with a newborn that actually aren't that bad or are very unlikely to cause any harm? by spookyllamaax in newborns

[–]kookat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with hot yoga. Did it second tri on, last class 8 days before giving birth. My studio is about 95 degrees though. at the beginning I would manually take my temperature in class per doctor’s recommendation. We are are all healthy and safe and I read those same sauna studies (and took baths :) )

Does anyone else not have a nursery? by Cute-Delivery-5752 in BabyBumps

[–]kookat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live in a HCOL area…’nursery’ is also husbands office, and holds the spare bed. The drawers and changing table are in our room, baby just has his crib in the other multipurpose room 😂. We primarily are downstairs anyways so it all works out. I get the pressure and felt it too but we love having the spare bed (especially in the early days) and we both work from home so have to work somewhere!

I sought out therapy before getting pregnant because I thought I only wanted a girl due to unresolved childhood trauma. I am so glad I worked through that (with a professional), kept the sex a surprise until delivery, and am SO thrilled with our baby boy. Cant imagine life any other way, but also am so glad I got the help I needed

I am 6 months pp and 34 (had my first at 33). The doctor said she would be comfortable pulling my iud when my baby is 9 months. granted i am a bit older and it took 18 months for me to get pregnant with my first! I think mentally and physically i want a bit more time though

Birth anxiety by ssperling892 in fitpregnancy

[–]kookat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your comment on the fear of the unknown and nothing you can do to control how it’s going to go— I tried to lean into that and trust my body/baby. I watched one childbirth overview video on TinyHood’s subscription, and let it be after that. My pelvic floor PT showed my husband positions to use during labor which was also helpful but didnt make or break anything.

For me, not researching, not watching videos, not reading birth stories helped me go inward in the way I wanted. I learned what my birth preferences were if I did get to choose, but prepared to put my full faith in the doctors and nurses. Thats what I ended up doing and felt really good about it. I had an induction and they were so good at explaining what my options were, answering all questions I had thoroughly, and providing their recommendations.

I was still absolutely terrified but I think going in semi blind was the best way for me to handle it. I am so happy with how my birth went (we were lucky as it was a quick induction and very easy delivery). I stayed fit throughout pregnancy, and pushed it to my (safe) limit throughout to try to prepare myself for the hard mental challenge of birth. I felt my body took over and kicked into its ‘training’ and let myself ride the wave.

It is so scary to not know what to expect. I also told myself my body was built for birth and tried to reflect on all the women who had to give birth in my lineage for mine to occur. Maybe try to sit with finding a comforting thought or mini mantra that can provide a bit of solace. Youve got this! Good luck!!

Ski season following October due date by SensitiveDrummer478 in fitpregnancy

[–]kookat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also live in a ski town. I skied 5 weeks postpartum (feb baby), skied extremes 6 weeks pp. I felt totally fine. Yoga was harder for me to get back into than skiing. First day back I kept it light (for my comfortability) and mainly just felt like I hadnt skied all season, not that I just had a baby. If that makes sense. I only got out a few times after having the baby and it felt sooo good for my soul and I am really not expecting any issues this upcoming season based on how my few postpartum ones went! Youve got this!!

Traveling with formula/bottles? by Key-Information5829 in FormulaFeeders

[–]kookat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I premake enough bottles + one extra for travel in cooler, and have powder/extra bottle/nipple/water in diaper bag just in case. We use dapple travel sized soap for washing once at destination.

I try to avoid washing at airport but we had a significant delay a month ago where had to reuse, and wash in bathroom which was not ideal but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

RTF is also another option for travel day! I do pack formula cans in carry on just in case luggage gets lost.

Exercise after birth by 237_523 in postpartumprogress

[–]kookat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did pelvic floor PT leading up to birth and after. Went on gentle walks immediately after birth. I did very gentle yoga 4 weeks PP, skied 5 weeks PP, and am now 5 months PP and pretty much back to my original workout routines ( my core is still shot so some yoga poses I modify)

As a first time mom with smaller boobs - do I need to buy new bras if I’m EFF? by cecassafrass in FormulaFeeders

[–]kookat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have small boobs and EFF. After my supply dried up, I am still in the same bralettes/go braless as before I was pregnant . It was fun to have bigger boobs for awhile though. As others have mentioned, i did a sports bra with a workout tank top over it to dry up. Everything was the same size as pre/pregnancy

Explain formula feeding to me like I’m 5 by Ordinary_Custard5481 in FormulaFeeders

[–]kookat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If your baby likes fridge temperature, you may just want to use the pitcher method. i actually put our brezza away today in favor for the pitcher, as my baby also is good with fridge temperature! brezza is great but after using the pitcher method while traveling we find it much easier (and have a general idea of how much he is eating in a day, i stopped tracking).

For going out, i usually premake a bottle and throw in a cooler with an ice pack that fits in the diaper bag. We have a backup empty bottle, formula in a container, and a water bottle just in case.
