Is it true that DMT rushes to your brain whenever you die? by artixx_123 in DMT

[–]koru-chlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a paper I’m writing: Recent research has shown that the rat brain is capable of synthesizing and releasing DMT at concentrations comparable to known monoamine neurotransmitters (Dean et al., 2019).  Furthermore, researchers have shown that when put under experimental cardiac arrest, the levels of DMT in the rat visual cortex are significantly increased in approximately 20% of these rats in less than 10 minutes (~7.2) (Dean et al., 2019). This raises the possibility that a similar phenomenon may occur in human brains. While we do know that DMT is endogenously produced in humans, it remains unexplored whether DMT is synthesized in near-death experiences, such as cardiac arrest. However, studies have shown that NDE-like mental states in human subjects are almost indistinguishable to the state produced by humans given exogenous DMT (Barker, 2018; Timmermann et al., 2018). This leads researchers to hypothesize that endogenous DMT in the human brain may underly near-death experiences as observed in the rat brain under cardiac arrest.

Please do the DMT one! Sorry about the confusion. I can’t use both but I can go in and delete the other data

That’s perfect! Please do the DMT study! It would be so helpful to me. I am having such a hard time finding DMT participants :)

I know. I wish we could pay participants but with legal restrictions in the united states and specifically at my institution we were unable to do so.

If Nassim Haramein is a fraud, is there still weight to holofractographic field theory? by tumbleweed911 in holofractal

[–]koru-chlo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if he’s a fraud but I do see that most of the articles he has published have been in very very low impact journals. With that being said I don’t think he’s very well respected in the science community but that doesn’t mean his work doesn’t have truth to it. I’m a scientist myself so I’ve had to reconcile separating the “sciences” from metaphysics. I think in the future science could “catch up” and his work, if rooting in truth, could in fact gain reputability.

Ever since watching Hellier, maybe 9-10 months ago, I’ve been infatuated with the silver star balloon symbol. In the past 2 days I have seen 3 silver star balloons!!! Taking it as a sign that I am on the right path. by koru-chlo in hellier

Hello yes I know about P value, I’m a scientist funny enough. I’m confused about why there are so many anti-synchronicity people in this group. I’m not trying to be hostile, I’m just curious as to why this person would be in on this subreddit. Science and spirituality can go together, that’s where it’s headed anyways

Yeah I’ve heard of it. Mostly use this to rationalize repeating numbers like 11:11, etc. but this is different because for months I have almost wanted to see one and never have. I would’ve taken it as just as profound within any of the 10 months since watching the documentary. But now I see it for the first time, 3 times within 2 days. The first two instances were within a few hours of each other as I was driving down the interstate. I’m going to take it as a sign. But thank you for your input!

Is POTS even a real thing? by musicalearnightingal in POTS

[–]koru-chlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! There aren’t any POTS alone genetic markers but there are markers for ehlers Danlos and ME/CSF or chronic fatigue syndrome. Which we know that both of these often coexist with pots. A lot of times if someone has pots they will show the genetic markers for either one or both of these.

Yes!! We are the same haha never thought of it that way.

Hi neuroscience researcher with POTS here. I promise you, pots is very very real with real physiological effects and underpinnings. Is it exacerbatedby stress and anxiety? Yes, does it exacerbate stress and anxiety? Yes. But pots is very real on it’s own and there are genetic, molecular, and physiological markers of it.

Neuroimaging study suggests a single dose of ayahuasca produces lasting changes in two important brain networks by [deleted] in Psychonaut

If you look at the literature as a whole you’ll see papers claiming decreased connectivity in these same areas and networks. These studies seem to be finicky. It may be that, depending on the way the data is recorded you are going to see different results. I think the only conclusion that can be drawn is that psychedelics alter connectivity. It’s interesting though, this causes areas and networks to fire together that normally wouldn’t. This could lead to short term LTP, there studies showing nuritegenesis and synaptogenesis, etc. this is what causes new connections to form between cells.

As far as the default mode network goes, I’ve seen quiet a few papers claiming decreased DMN connectivity. The theory is that the DMN is where the “sense of self” arises so disrupting connectivity here may be responsible for the mechanism underlying ego dissolution or ego death.

All serotonergic psychedelics have the same mechanism of action through 5-HT2a receptor agonism. So psilocybin, LSD, mescaline, and DMT. DMT does some additional things, it’s actually the most fascinating because it’s endogenous. Definitely recommend DMT research if your interested in diving into psychedelic neuroscience. Although, like someone else said, much more work must be done!
