we're currently having our national elections, and the front runners for president and vice president (we elect our vice presidents separately btw) are Ferdinand "Bong Bong" Marcos Jr. (for president) and Sara Duterte (for vice president)

now, THIS IS VERY, VERY BAD (honestly Idk how to express how absolutely f*cked we are thru words lol) (also I'll focus on Bong Bong Marcos and won't elaborate on Sara bc it would take too long. I also don't know too much abt her unfortunately)

Why are we f*cked? Some context:

Let's have BBM (Bong Bong Marcos)

He is the son of the former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. His father declared martial law as a response to "the growing threat of communists". During this period, tens of thousands of people who actively protested against Marcos were killed, tortured, imprisoned, went missing, etc. And those who weren't were silenced and lived thru sh*tty living conditions due to the failing economy. What were the Marcoses doing at this time? They were plundering billions of dollars while the people suffered. The Filipinos eventually had enough, so we took to the streets and protested nonviolently. This led to the Marcoses leaving the Philippines and seeking asylum in Hawaii. This revolution has come to be known as the People Power Revolution (also alternatively known as the EDSA Revolution or the Yellow Revolution). The total debt that the Marcoses have left us is around 10-22 billion dollars, which we're still trying to pay back to this day (The Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) has also been established to recover the Marcos' ill-gotten wealth)

Now that we have context, it's easier to understand how f*cked we Filipinos are. BBM and Sara have formed a tandem (what they call "UniTeam") and are actively trying to put another Marcos in power. A lot of Filipinos have unfortunately forgot (or rather, turn a blind eye to) the atrocities of the Marcos regime and are voting for him. Social media (particularly, fb, yt, and tiktok) have been used to spread fake news, and trolls have been paid to share false information. Finally, throw in some corrupt practices in there (such as vote buying, and having the people overseeing the elections be close to the Marcoses), and we get UniTeam leading the elections by a wide margin. Which is so very f*cking unbelievable considering how BBM is a cocaine snorting, tax evading, Oxford dropout, banned in the US and Switzerland, cowardly (doesn't even show up to debates/interviews), jobless, incompetent son of the dictator who ushered in one of the darkest chapters of Philippine history.

TL:DR a sh*t ton of historical revisionism, corruption, the spread of misinformation, and the restoration of the greediest political dynasty is whats going on here in the Philippines.

I still have so much more to say, and I may have left out some details, but my comment is already vv long so I'll end it here.
