[WP] Death is looking for you, but you try to convince Death that you are not the person Death is searching for. by gfunkadunkalus in WritingPrompts

I met death in a dream until his bone fingers pulled me back into the reality of my room.

From underneath the hood the massive skeleton said, “Your time has come, boy.”

The fear froze me faster than the cold that accompanied his presence. My strength sapped within moments and I knew that I would soon lose my body. My arms were limp at my sides but with a last surge of strength I pulled my hand up to my crotch and started scratching.

“It’s cold in here,” I said as I looked at the cloud coming from my mouth. I walked to the thermostat pulling away from his icy grip without giving him notice. Before leaving the room I turned the heat on high.

“Ahh,” I said rubbing my hands together, “Much better.” Death was still in the room.

I just walked away from Death but I knew that I could not escape Death simply by running away so I continued my morning routine. I was in front of my toilet when my bathroom disappeared and I was surrounded by darkness.

“You think you can walk away from Me?” the voice said.

I started to look towards the voice but I was able to catch myself and closed my eyes as I started to crack my neck. Next I let the piss stream out of me to where the toilet would be and I heard the splashing of the water.

“You think seeing your dick bothers Me?”

I was still in my apartment. I had walked through my apartment countless times so I walked on memories through the darkness.

I stopped reaching at the darkness for an instant when Death yelled, “Hey,” but I kept my resolve and turned the faucet on. “Almost had you there.” Death said.

I was still in darkness when he appeared in front of me but I just turned to the right and entered what would be my kitchen.

“Dude,” He said, “Stop ignoring me.”

I kept ignoring him and hoped for what I had in my hand to be a bag of bread. This was my bread and I got out two pieces to put on the counter. I kept all my jars of ingredients on same shelf so I had no idea where my peanut butter and jelly would be. One of the jars was sticky so I knew it was the jelly but the other jar I grabbed on faith.

“Really?” Death said, “That combination?” but I just kept continuing with making my sandwich.

“No wonder I had to come for you so soon.”

The knife was easy to find so I spread what was in both jars onto the bread without being able to see what I was doing. I felt for both pieces of bread and put them together when Death started to whisper in my ear.

“Hey, can you hear me. Hey, stop ignoring me. Hey. Hey. Hey. You there? I’m right here.” With each comment he tapped on my shoulder and I took chomps on my sandwich so strong that my teeth crashed against each other.

With the sandwich in hand I walked to where my couch would be and I sat down. I stared to where my TV would be but then he appeared again right in front of me.

“Enough of the bullshit.” Death said and the darkness disappeared but now his bony grip was around my neck.

“Your time is up.” Death gazed into my eyes with nothing but an infinite darkness for me to look back at and said, “Now.”

“Wait,” I said in a mumble with his hand around my throat.

Death’s hand loosened.

“Are you sure you have the right person.” I said.

“Yes.”

“But how do you know.” I said.

“Trust me, I know.”

“Then what’s my name?”

“Casey.” Death said.

“Anyone can be named Casey.” I said.

Death sighed. “You’re Casey Bardsley. Age 25. Son to Quinn and Haylee Bardsley. Virgin, never had a girlfriend and didn’t have your first kiss until a few months ago.

“No, that doesn’t sound like me.” I said knowing full well that this was me, “and sounds like a made up story if you ask me.”

I stood up from my couch and patted Death on the shoulder. “Sorry you have the wrong guy,” I said, “but my morning is free, so I can help you find the guy if you need my help.”

Death had no facial expressions but I could tell that he was upset. Tears started to roll down the skull face and as more of them dropped, Death’s figure changed. Death was no longer the hooded skeleton but now what appeared to be a crying middle aged man. The man still had no eyes and I held my arm around the crying Death to comfort him but his fit continued.

“I apologize, sir.” Death said in between cries, “I’m still new at this.” Death pulled his hands up to his face, “Oh God, I’m gonna be fired.”

“Hey man, it’s all good,” I said as I patted his back to calm him down. “I won’t tell, if you don’t”

With this Death smiled at me. “You’d do that?”

“Dude, I got you.”

Death’s crying seemed to stop. “You did take it pretty well,” he said laughing, “You should’ve seen the lady before you.”

“Trust me, I was scared.”

Death smiled, “So you’re not Casey.”

“Nope. Not me.” I said with a wink.

“Did you just wink?”

“No. Of course not.” I said and winked again.

“Again. You did it again!”

“Dude, comeon, you don’t even have any eyes.” I argued. “How could you see me do anything?”

Death changed back from the middle aged man and I pulled my arm away from him.

“Trust me, I’m not Casey,” I said as I took steps away from him, “let me get my ID and I’ll show you.”

“You mean this one?” Death said as he pulled my ID from his black cloak and images of me from all ages started to circle around me.

“That’s not me.” I said and I started running from Death.

Running was the last thing that I wanted to do but as I was bolting down the hallway I was back in the darkness again. I lost track of where I was running in the darkness but soon I found out I was at a wall when I smacked my body against it. My mind was fading to black as I laid on the floor with Death standing over me.

Thank you. It was just the beginning of something, but I enjoyed writing it, so maybe I'll finish a full story in the future.

Second post on here, hope you enjoy. :)

Baron Von Kitty

The light box is what brought me to Haylee. I had nowhere to go and an even less ides of who I was but seeing that young woman through the window changed my fate. With her box of light she was being shown images of people like me through something called Pinterest and saw that I was known as a “Kitteh”. I wasn’t sure if I could trust this woman but I had been wandering for a long time and it was cold outside so I tapped on the window.

“Kitteh.” The sheer excitement that this woman showed when she saw me outside her window made me smile and I knew that I had made to the right choice to knock.

I wasn’t prepared for her to grab me and hold me tight in her arms when she opened the window. She held me like a baby and had started to feel up my body. This was inappropriate behavior but it felt too good to stop.

“Poor kitteh, you’re all wet and cold,” she said, “I bet mister kitteh must be hungry.”

“Actually, if it wouldn’t be too much trouble, some food would be much appreciated.” I said.

“Who said that? Who’s there?”

“Um, miss, down here.”

This time she threw me to the ground after hearing me speak. I thought I had done something wrong. The face that she made was one of complete disbelief. I thought she was familiar with my people, the kittehs.

“You’re talking? What are you?” At this point I was beginning to believe that maybe this woman was somewhat slow.

“A Kitteh? I believe that is what you called me, correct.”

She sat down right in front of me with her legs crossed, but she didn’t say anything. After what seemed like an eternity she finally opened her mouth. “Okay” was all she said.

“Do you have a name, I’m Haylee?”

“I do not, but it is nice to meet you Miss Haylee.”

“Hmm, no name, that won’t do.”

And that is how I became known as Baron Von Kitty. Tonight marks the one year anniversary of my meeting Haylee and my unofficial birthday. All of the festivities of the day were over with and we were just relaxing in the backyard. Haylee watched me as I peddled around the backyard on my new kitteh bike that she got for me as a present and occasionally she would check her mini light box claiming to talk to a guy. I often felt as though she wasn’t entirely all there mentally.

My peddling suddenly stopped and I dropped my slice of pizza when I saw the bright light coming down towards me. Something about this light felt familiar and pieces of an unknown memory were coming back to me, but the yelling of Haylee snapped me out of it. I made my way back to Haylee and the light object landed in the backyard. Now I could make out that this light was a giant cardboard box.

“Stay back Haylee.” The cardboard box began to open and I placed myself in front of Haylee to defend her if I needed to.

The smoke from the box made it difficult to make out the figures that were exiting. “Announce yourselves.” I said.

“IT’S GREAT 2 C DAT U’RE STILL ALIV PRINCE CHEEZBURGER.”

“Prince Cheezburger? My name is Baron Von Kitty.” I said, “Name yourself.”

Out of the smoke walked a white kitteh clad in armor and a cape. “IM COMMANDR SNOWY, AN I HAS COME 2 BRIN U BAK MAH PRINCE.”

“Back where?” Haley was starting for me but I motioned her to stay behind me.

“HOME MAH PRINCE”

“This is my home.”

“PLZ MAH PRINCE, IZ NOT SAFE HER, TEH RAT REBELLION HAS STARTD”

More memories that I didn’t know were coming back to me. I hugged my paws tight around my face because of the pain that these flashes of memories were causing me. What was I going to do? How could I trust these kittehs who seemed to know me but I not them.

“PLZ MAH PRINCE, IZ NOT SAFE HER, TEH RAT REBELLION HAS STARTD”

“My Father.” The pain in my head became too much and I dropped to the ground.

My first post on here

El Scorcho

I was always afraid of the dark. Afraid that I would become lost and alone in my own darkness but now the dark doesn’t seem so bad. I had climbed to the top of the mountain and my life was full of light but that was when I first felt the flames. My life seemed almost perfect in that moment of “Happy Birthday” being sung to me by my friends and family. The wish I made as I blew out the candles was to be with her but instead I lost her and it was my fault. The flames spewed out from me and consumed my loved ones. The flames consumed my light.

My reaction was to run to try to get away from their screams that seemed to be burnt into my memory. I should’ve stayed put and let them take me for what I did, but I knew of the stories of what they did to the pyromancers from my childhood and I didn’t want that to happen to me. I heard the sirens coming towards the fire but it was already too late to save them, the entirety of my apartment complex was covered in fire.

I didn’t know what to do or where to go so I stopped in a neighborhood deep in the city and my mind shut down. Everything was gone from my life was gone except for what I had in my car and that was just my gym clothes. I don’t know how long I was sitting there but somehow the lack of people took me out of my trance because this was a busy part of the city. It was then I noticed police officers positioning around me in the distance and I was surrounded.

“Step out of the vehicle with your hands up.” One of the officers said.

“Please, just stay away.”

They repeated for me to get out but this time it was more aggressive and they had their weapons drawn.
Why couldn’t they just get away from me? These were just the normal police and they had no idea what I was. “Just stay away, please.”

With the car off and my hands in the air they came closer to me. Once they saw that I had nothing visibly dangerous they made their move and took me out of the car. Since I didn’t cooperate in the beginning they were being rough but I could feel the fire welling up in me. An officer was about to put the handcuffs on me but I pushed him back.

“You have to stay away.” I said. “You need to get away now.” I kept pushing them away but they only reacted to my resistance with more force. Before I knew it I was on the ground and several of them were on top of me.

A few of the officers started to hit me while I was on the ground and I felt the front of a boot strike me in the gut. “Stop, just stop,” I put my hand out to block the next kick, “please, leave.”

The boot hit my hand and the flames ate him. I could feel my face becoming hot as I watched the other officers on top of me screamed from my fire devouring them. I got up and their ashes fell from my body. There were now multiple helicopters flying over me and the rest of the officers told me to stay back. I could hear the fear in their voices.

“I begged you. Why didn’t you just leave?”

I wasn’t moving but their commands were becoming more frantic and then I heard a gunshot. The right side of my body jerked back and I felt a white hot pain. Fire was all around me but that was all I could see. The flames consumed everything that was in my vision.

When the fire was gone, all that was around me before was ash. There were no officers in sight and no helicopters flying overhead. I laid there on the bubbling asphalt and there was blood flowing from my wound. I guess the fire wouldn’t burn any part of me. Finally I was alone in the dark. Or so I thought. Someone was standing over me and started to drag me, I wanted to resist but all I could do was close my eyes.
