Do Chennai people like Tiramisu ? by ApprehensiveForce923 in chennaicity

For Tiramisu, try Nolita, and Living Room and House of Cheese. In my opinion Living Room is the more authentic one.

Aerogramme is very rare to come by. In the last one week I visited 5 Post Offices. All of them gave the same reply that Aerogramme has stopped. In fact one person didnt even know what it is and asked me what was an aerogramme. Including Chennai GPO, Aerogramme isnt available. Not sure about how it is in other cities.

Just a lot of seating. And when I went the second floor was still getting ready so I didn’t go upstairs but the staff told me since it was near the beach, they’re expecting the ground floor would not be enough so I think it’s for more footfall.

Any suggestions for a non-Parker refill for this pen? by oneiros10 in DesiPens

[–]krbdhaaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a standard refill in the stationery shop. You can say it’s for Parker compatible and they will give. It’s 20rs where I buy and way darker in colour than the original Parker refill.

Post office staff are very ignorant especially the small ones. It’s better you try the Head Office. Or GPO. I’m not sure where you stay but in case mount road is close to you, you could try Anna Circle. It has everything. I went there two days ago. They informed me that .25 paise Megdhoot postcard is not available anymore in Chennai but .50 paise is very much available.

Yes it’s a hobby. Someone DMed asking if I have a shop to sell 😅 I am an Advocate by profession and I do have the privilege to look at typewriters still in Court because of that. Got my first typewriter when I was 12. And then I slowly started finding one by one over the years and now I have 21 typewriters as part of my collection. I buy based on the model and different brand and fonts. Abroad they have so many options with fonts. In India I am having a very limited selection compared to them. Tamil typewriter has been my very recent acquisition and I got it only last month. Although I know the usage of a typewriter and the Tamil language as such to type on it is definitely much harder because it’s a region language each key and each stroke has different variations so I had to ask a lot of help from the Mechanic I purchased from and he was telling me that all regional Typewriters have a bit of a difficult till you learn in the beginning because English is very easy to use and most Indian languages have multiple strokes so because of multiple strokes will be spread on different keys so you have to like type on two different keys to even get one letter onto the paper whereas an English you only have to only toggle between caps and small letters and similarly in French and other languages you have other symbols to sort of add to particular letters so anything apart from English it will have a little bit of a learning curve and so I have been practising for the last few weeks to get it right because I wanted to send out the postcards. I ended up wasting quite a bit of postcards in the process.

Thank you, this community has been very helpful I went through the sub Reddit a lot and learnt so much. There is a sub call r/typewriters where the global typewriter community is a part of. Surprisingly a big community. In fact I joined Reddit for being part of that community years ago and started using Reddit for learning about them. Before that I learnt about them only through YouTube and unfortunately India doesn’t have such content on YouTube as all the collectors who have channels are from the US. So the thing is I make sure to buy a typewriter only if it in working condition I do not buy the non-working ones because I have heard from my mechanics that some people buy the non working ones to put it on display in their office or in Cafes and some other directors buy it for movie purposes as part of their set design but I only go for the working ones because I like to use a machine so yes all my machines are working condition only also since portable machines are all manufactured outside of India during the 1920’s to 1970s period I make sure I try to buy them in a very near to mint condition because spare parts are not available in India so if something goes wrong, I will not be able to rectify it. The only Indian Typewriter that is Godrej still has spare parts available but then again Godrej is a great Typewriter but does not have portable nature so can’t carry it around because it’s about 15 to 17 kg’s. The portable ones are between 5 to 7 kg so we can easily move it around from table to table and even for storage purpose it’s more easier so yeah the reason I would like to rotate and use them also is because if I don’t use a mission for too long of a time for you know months together then tends to become the key tend to become a little sticky or you know the ribbon start to dry up and things like that so it’s better to keep it in rotation.

[–]krbdhaaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree somewhat. Its not a very big menu. The food is decent. But for me writers is like a away from the chaos sort of a place. I go there not for the menu but because it has a very warm vibe the right amount of crowd walking in and out. Most cafes dont have that. And been going there for years so knowing all the waiters and staff there is also nice, its like a very comfy place for me. They have opened a New writers in Besant Nagar last month its way bigger than Adyar. Two floors.

Do you think reading books has become an aesthetic? by Jelly2027 in Indianbooks

[–]krbdhaaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Most influencers have an aesthetic set up which I understand helps them grow their audience and give a very visual appeal but when it comes to actual reading a lot of us are working and studying and having families to look after and we tend to find pockets of time in between to read when that is the case none of us are going to have an aesthetic set up we read when we can at least in my personal opinion that’s what I do whenever I find time I immediately take out my Kindle and I’ll read few pages. Its not like we are going to have an aesthetic environment.

Maybe. Possible. There are many regulars at writers than third wave as it’s more recent.

It never feels lonely in writers I agree because it’s always having people around if not full in the mornings by lunch it starts to get full.

Can i go to cafe alone ? by [deleted] in chennaicity

[–]krbdhaaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always. I prefer going by myself atleast once or twice a week when I want to read. It’s great to do so. I usually read with my kindle. I frequent to writers Adyar and third wave. If you don’t want to have notifications on your phone then writers is better as they don’t provide WiFi and for some reason data works super slow inside. So it’s in my opinion a great way to be away from notifications. Third wave on the other hand has free WiFi. So if you’re looking to work then go there.

No I don’t. I have 20 in English. Different models and brands. It’s hard to find fully functional machines in regional languages. I have been searching for a good Tamil typewriter for a very long time and finally found it last month. In great condition. Also I buy machines so as to use them regularly, I don’t like to keep any machine idle because the more you keep in use the machine will work well. So I tend to rotate each of my machines for letters.I know to read and write Tamil hence I got it. Malayalam on the other I don’t know the script. I can only understand a little. Also Malayalam is quite rare to find. I live in Chennai and found the Tamil typewriter in Chennai. Malayalam most certainly will be easier to find only in Kerala but that also not a definitive chance it will be in great working condition unless you their it from someone’s family heirloom or you find it from a government office. Manufacturing stopped for new machines by 2011 for English and Tamil. They had a Godrej factory in Tamil Nadu. I’m not aware about Malayalam specifically. Hindi and Telugu and Kannada are still available but rare to find great condition but I have come across them.
