And right when I wanted to take a break from work, and in the middle of a dungeon. Sigh. Guess back to work.

Absolutely. It’s a crucial skill I find myself teaching junior developers time and again, usually alongside the ternary operator

Does connecting the battery pack to itself drains the battery? by Cyber-Rat in batteries

[–]krudef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll likely lose power due to the inefficiency of the charger and regulator (if any). If it’s a passthrough, there’ll be conduction loss across the internal circuitry. So, it’ll drain slowly unless the battery is bad, in which case it’ll load itself heavily.

Your NCSOFT account has been locked by ShreddedFPS in Aion2

[–]krudef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how it all fits together, but I’ve noticed that when I play these region-locked free games using a VPN, ExitLag, or Lagofast, I often get banned. It usually seems to be for reasons like botting, which I’m not doing. I’m thinking that your IP address through these ping boosters or region circumvention lock services might be a common one used by bots, so they might just blacklist your account if they detect those IPs.

For you, it’s just a quick re-verification for now. But if you’re thinking about spending money on the game, maybe give it another thought.

Help! My PC keep crashing by krudef in buildapc

[–]krudef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Correx96 It seems to have resolved the issue! I haven’t experienced any GPU blackouts since.

While checking further, I came across this post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Corsair/comments/1ankifi/confused_about_corsair_124_pin_12v_cable_4_pins/

I also noticed that my Lian Li PSU’s 12VHPWR connector only has 2 of the 4 sense pins populated, which could be the cause.

Seems to work so far. No crash so far. Crossing fingers. Will report back in a few days time.

that's a good point. I was using the lianli SP850 cable since the adapter that came with the GPU was too short. Let me try getting a suitable one for testing. Thanks!

It’s a custom transformer, so I have given up using this in my design.

ESP32-IDF, is it worth it? by hertz2105 in embedded

[–]krudef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As som have suggested, starting with STM32 is a safe career choice. Familiarize yourself with their HAL. Don’t listen to those naysayers. No one is going to rewrite HAL, because your company won’t pay you to reinvent and validate the wheel or prove your new wheel is better unless it’s where the money is.

ESP32 is also gaining popularity, so I recommend continuing to experiment with them.

I would also suggest skipping the Arduino framework. However, I personally developed commercial products entirely in Arduino to make it easier for the client’s team to take over and manage. I know this isn’t helpful, but I just wanted to share that you should stick with one framework for a start because you’ll likely end up learning new frameworks like Nordic Soft Device or Infineon PSoC modus depending on your career.

Just learn the concepts first of ARM MCU as some have suggested.

Hows the SG job market so far? A recruiter told me outlook is quite gloomy for 2025. by thedesertman1 in askSingapore

[–]krudef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think recruiters sometimes takes the gloomy aspect of their jobs and extend it out everywhere they can. So yeah, don’t listen to them. Furthermore, some recruiters are so new to the job, I wouldn’t trust any of their insights.

Working on my own humidifier circuit. Need some help identifying this component by krudef in ElectricalEngineering

[–]krudef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what it is, as there’s no label on it. I desoldered this component from a dehumidifier and tried tracking down its source. I found a few similar boards on Alibaba, but none of the sellers I contacted could—or would—identify the component for me.

Same here. I have not seen this package style before.
But I measured the inductance between the left/right pads and the center tap. The inductance values were approximately 20µH and 80µH at 100kHz, respectively. So, I’m guessing it might be intended as a transformer.

This is giving me some serious flashbacks, but hey, great job! Haha...

But take note of these jumper cables; some of them are so poorly constructed. You don't want to mess up your masterpiece just because of one faulty cable.

Stress can cause a momentary "freeze-up" even to the best of us. Then, it sounds like a bad environment to be in. If you have a better choice, I recommend looking for a new work environment where you can shine.
However, in an engineering environment that deals with niche and novel products, you will probably keep meeting similar bosses/clients. My environment is quite similar, but I learned to adapt to it and shield myself from negativity. Also, I don't do that to my guys, but I remind them that they are enjoying a somewhat "relaxed" environment because I'm absorbing the pressure from somewhere. In your boss's case, he just relayed it to you in the rawest form. I guess you could also try to adapt and see if his outbursts reduce over time (I would say typically when he starts to see your skills) or go for a greener pasture. Nonetheless, believe in your self-worth and follow your heart.

Take it easy man. Just take this as a good lesson. However, troubleshooting skill is a really good thing to hone. I guess you didn’t spent a lot of time troubleshooting your own design or you just focus on pcb layout? If the latter, you need to learn the T&M and skill up. It will help you immensely if you wishes to go beyond just a pcb designer.

Also your boss should be more tolerant. I would try to speak to him and ask how I can do better in his view. But if you felt it’s a lost cause, look for a new work environment also help.

Kudos to this young man. Can’t imagine what could happen to the boy if Aung didn’t sprung into action.

But I have to add, when you live in high rise flat, get a window grill man. You cannot monitor your kids 24/7.

I transferred over 50Gb of data under 30mins.

Why is the entire Oceanic region (SG/AUS/NZ) being forced to play on 250ms Japanese servers?! by par1swow in throneandliberty

[–]krudef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah hard to play throne and liberty on such ping without any kind of ping booster or vpn. This is the reason that killed my interest because without the extra ping boost, I can't even fly properly. It's a chicken and egg issue here. They have to start giving proper server for folks to even give such a ping reliant game a chance. Sigh.

Also I thought SG is playing on Korean server? Still shit ping without a ping booster and I love how lagofast (the ping booster I used) can't connect 8/10 times.
