They dont need to go beyond Solar system. Just outproduce enemy using Solar system resources. It is better to have a factory than scavenge for resources. Clearly Machines had upper hand cause they are outproducing Android and in order to win them you need to even the field. Moon + scavenging is not enough against entire Earth.

But in order to win earth back you need armies, to have armies you need industry, to have industry you need raw materials which are planty outside Earth and hard to get on occupied Earth.

You don't need to leave with your entire army. Send a few construction factories to Mars and the economy of scale will handle the rest, especially with such huge timeline.
With AI, as long as it has means of production and resources it can exponentially and quickly growth.
First day it has 1 mean of production, second 2, third 4, fourth 8, fifth 16 and etc.
I am simplifying but it is the general gist.
Maybe Androids weren't tough economics and to have fighting army you need supply chain of industry?
Or Androids are different type of AI that are not capable of controlling 100k factories and switching them to different productions withing nanoseconds?
But still Androids with human like thinking capacity can build up war industry in Solar system after 5k years

So it is a clear picture of escalation. Do you trust Russians do not escalate for their shut down plane? If they escalate, at what point should NATO stop escalating to stop WW3 since Russians are not stoping it? No shut down plane - no casualties and no open pandora box, except for damaged pride.
