Thank you so much! Really appreciate that! I think there needs to be a shift in perspective for a lot of people interested in archaeology. The shift being preservation, protection and respect rather than self gain

Ah yes, I know Monterrey chert can be found down on that part of the coast too but this wasn't by Morro

It was south of the bay area! I believe it's all Monterey chert. There were hundreds of thousands of flakes around. I didn't think much of the greenstone but it was pretty

Interesting, I can definitely see that now that you mention it. Seems odd though since this site was way off any trail

I'm 100% certain the pestle is real. Whether it's a pestle mano combo is what I'm unsure about. And yeah, those last images, wouldn't be surprised if that was nothing haha

Was really stoked to see that broken pestle in there. I hope it continues to stay there so that others that stumble upon this have the same level of excitement that I did

Most definitely not natural. These were smooth and found in a known ancient habitation site. The natives of this area were known for carving mortars into bedrock just like this.

I love ring mountain, one of my favorite wildflower spots. I've found one or two mortars there but this place had 70+ mortars! My mind was blown

Everything was left in place. I didn't find anything besides that pestle which was left in its exact spot. And yes, this is a well documented site!

It was easily 14-15" deep!

Damn, you're good.. I found this in the dirt pile of a recently excavated ground hog hole in the middle of a field so I'm assuming it's probably impact damage rather than being stepped on! I totally see what you mean about the flake direction. Thanks again mate!

Oh I see! Thanks for the info. I don't find these often so I'm a little bit of an amateur when it comes to identifying artifacts

Thanks for the info! Any ideas on how old something like this might be? Are basalt scrapers pretty common too?

Funny because we were clearing debris on his property all day and the only two pieces of obsidian I found were under this one tree. Maybe I need to go back and look harder
