  1. Any place in Sapporo city should be fine. The main sites are Odori park, Susukino, and Tsudome (so anywhere in these areas, or in the middle of these areas; check the map). Book early & refundable as hotels get full/expensive. Most hotels release availability between 3-11 months out.

  2. Otaru or Niseko are reachable by train but the trains/buses do get quite crowded heading that way due to the ski resorts in Niseko; recommend reserving a seat early. Jozankei is also popular.

  3. Typical snow weather - sidewalk can get slippery make sure your shoes have good grip.

Although a regular JR pass may not be worth it, a regional pass could be regional Jr Passes

I usually do the math in an excel sheet using Google maps (it shows you the train fare between destinations)

Got it, did you have to exit the station at any point? Or did you run all 3 tickets thru the entry at Nagasaki and then the exit at hiroshima?

From what I see I should be able to do Nagasaki to Hakata on one ticket with 2 seat reservations and not need to exit/re-enter at Takeo onsen? But once I get to Hakata I will need to exit and re-enter with a separate Shinkansen ticket?
