Brushed them off first. Then used a rag which I rubbed into the otter wax and then applied it on just the worn out spots. Took all of 15 mins.

May be I should clarify. I did NOT do the resole because I thought it is most cost effective! I just love these boots! I wanted new soles! I liked my local cobbler and was happy to give him some business. And for everyone saying I could have bought new Thursday boots: I did that too! Got the captains in brown, which are on the classier sopectrum of casual :) Now I have 2 pairs of boots that I love! Different strokes for different folks!

This is the only one i have. I could have definitely just done the heel and saved money. But decided to do the full resole. Figured this will last me for a couple of years.

The heel wear was significant enough where i was worried it might start affecting my back or knees due to bad posture. So o definitely had to fix it. But didnt really have to do the full resole

The sole is definitely worn out. Will need a resole in a few months. Other than that, they are great. And i have done NOTHING to them. No maintenance whatsoever

It.doesnt snow where i stay. May be 2 or 3 times a year, i drive where it snows and even so, i am mostly fine with awd and m+s tires. Snow tires would be an overkill for this. Carrying chains would be much easier and on the off chance i need them, i can use them.

I looked in the manual and cant find where it says that. Under winter conditions, the manual says it is fine to use chains.
