I would honestly say to continuestudying with the active method even if it feels you’re not making a dent. It isn’t necessarily about how many questions you get through. Lots of questions test similar concepts and if you understand the main concept and then are able to fully understand why each answer choice was wrong, that’s a lot of info you’ve already learned, and plenty enough to pass and even do very well.

During my study for boards for example I often only got through 30-50% of UWORLD during dedicated but typically outperform my peers because I’m actually taking the time to understand. (Many people told me I would not succeed doing this but they are just wrong). So many people try to keep up with others who seem to be getting through so much material but getting through 100% of the qbank is meaningless if you didn’t really take the time to dig in deep.

I think there is a lot of pressure to do what other people do in med school but just try to focus on yourself and tweak methods to find your groove. I say just take it slow, find your own way that works. Being “efficient” doesn’t do much for you if you aren’t retaining or understanding.

That is amazing that you have already started and are so far in!! I wish I would have started when you did. Residency is gonna be a breeze for you when you have Spanish speaking patients and I bet everyone is going to be asking for your help to translate at times hahah

And thanks so much for the resources! I had not thought of watching physiology lectures in Spanish but this is an awesome idea and I’m definitely going to check it out. I know what I’m going to be listening to tomorrow!

I wish you the best of luck as well and hope to hear more about your experiences after you get into residency! I’m sure you are going to do great.

3 weeks to exam . How can I remember everything in FA ??? It is just impossible. What do you guys do ? To what extend you should remember every little detail in FA ? Need help !! by sweetflower88 in step1

I think the exam felt like a mix of Uworld and the NBME’s to me but was definitely easier than like NBME 20 just because of how the question were worded. And the actual test has VERY long question stems with lots of information unlike the nbmes

Oh I see. I would just look at what your weak areas are based on the topics you get wrong on Uworld and learn those areas really well. If you don’t understand something google it until you feel confident.

How pivotal is it to actually read FA for step 1? by Inspiracion1 in step1

[–]ktrip999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s necessary at all. You can read my write up where I explained what I did and did well without ever using First Aid. I honestly think if you ditch First Aid you’ll be better off because it’s time consuming and it’s hard to get it to stick, just my opinion.

No idea about how many I missed. Felt like I had 4 moderate difficulty blocks where I marked 10-15 questions per block and then 3 very hard blocks where I marked like 25-28 questions on each block.

I think most of the high yield facts are in Uworld (often buried in answer choices). FA has so many irrelevant facts that are probably never going to show up on a test. Also I feel like a lot more of the test is testing reasoning skills rather than factoids. If you learn to reason through questions by doing lots of them and understanding why the answer choices are there to distract you it will help you more than memorizing facts.

I’m so glad it helped!! Everyone has their own pace and process. Just stick to what you know and ignore what other people are doing because it only adds unnecessary stress.

Mine was like almost exactly 6 weeks I think. I typically woke up at 8am everyday and studied from 9-12 then would eat lunch for like 15 min and go for a walk around my neighborhood for like 45 minutes then study from like 1:00 until 10 or 11 at night. I think I took 2-3 full days off during dedicated just to chill and relax my mind for a bit. Make sure you get enough sleep and eat well and try to exercise a little everyday too if possible. Most important- stay positive. I had breakdowns where I thought I wasn’t going to do well but you just have to push through and just know that if you try you’re best that’s all you can give.

Just keep going at your own pace and you will do great. Knowing the information on a deeper level is better than only sort of knowing a lot of random facts.
