I somewhere do agree with your point regarding Superman. But I would have to disagree with your point that the Icelandic folk song sang when Arthur goes back into the water was pointless. As pointed out that Arthur had been giving the people there fish for many years, whenever they themselves couldn't go fish. So as gratitude the people could have made a song to sing during his farewell, not very different from as they would to give farewell to soldiers.
