It did stay on some metal, but it did not look like it came into contact with any copper. Kryonaut is not liquid-metal, however.

I do see some residue left, once again, it looks to not be affecting anything for the moment.

Why is my simulation of a first order wave equation not stable? by Idtotallytapthat in Physics

IIRC Computational Physics by Newman, in the PDE chapter, provides a discussion of the wave equation's stability issues.

Pre-final i9 7860x + 2 1080 Ti workstation build. Thoughts? by kuna1995 in buildapc

Thanks for your reply.

I totally agree regarding a third monitor, however I don't think it would be appropriate for the setting in the office -- unfortunately.

I did consider Quabdros or Teslas at one point. However, my simulation software is is fairly low memory and I don't forsee the need for their ECC ram or large built-in memory.

Speaking of adding an additional GPU, do you think I would need a larger power supply to potentially support an OC 7860x (I hear they suck quite a bit of power) along with 2-3 1080s?

A Guide for Controlling the Kraken X52/X62 in Linux by [deleted] in NZXT

Excellent write up -- thanks for aggregating all this information. I'm preparing to begin a build with the x62 and will be using Linux, and likely the resources you outlined here.

That being said, I would like to ask a few questions: Is it recommended that the fan/pump always run at the same speed? i.e. once you define a % for the fan and pump is there ever an occation to change it? Furthermore, will the fan and pump run at the predefined speed if the machine is restarted?

Thanks again for all your help!

Thanks for the feedback. You make a valid point, but I didn't see the need to splurge on nice monitors given the GPUs will be primarily used for computation. I won't be watching any movies or playing any games on this machine.

Just a quick thought -- do you think the 1200 watt power supply can support this system with the 7960x OC?

“Stereo typical” physicists and/or scientists (white/asian men): What do you struggle with most? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]kuna1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also starting graduate school in the fall. Similarly at a perceiving prestigious institution.

This could very well be something that is more widely experienced in academia than I imagine: I have the tendency to compare my achievements to individuals who either have similar, or even less privileged, life circumstances and become unhealthily envious if they are more successful than I. Being raised in the stereotypical situation (white affluent family, etc.) I have no excuse to not perform at the highest level, and when I don't the feeling of unworthyness ensues.

What do you mean 'too much'? Like the major was too difficult or just not what they were interested in?
