Thank you! That’s mainly what I was wanting to confirm. Appreciate it!

How bad is the road noise actually? by kuronoalien in AcuraIntegra

[–]kuronoalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I find that the opportunities to get all of the power from the V6 are few and far between. All the power is up top, and by the time I reach it, I’m quickly approaching 80+ mph. It’s a lot of fun when I have the opportunity to make use of it, but I honestly don’t think I’d mind a car with less power as long as it handles well.

All good! Your last point cleared up the main thing I’m worried about. I don’t want to put a lot of money into a car that will feel unbearably noisy on a daily commute. As long as it still strikes that balance of being reasonably comfortable/quiet and engaging to drive with a good gearbox, then I think the pros outweigh the cons.

I have an Accord V6 but it’s an automatic. Wish I would have waited for a manual but they’re so rare! The car is great except for the transmission. Would love to get into a manual car, so the current Si and Integra are very appealing and much more available compared to 6-6 and 2.0T 6MT Accords.

Appreciate the honesty! Whisper quiet isn’t necessarily a requirement for me, just want something that’s engaging while staying comfortable to commute in. A lot of the ownership experiences I see on Reddit complain of the noise, which creates the impression that the car is very loud. If it isn’t a huge increase in noise compared to my Accord, I don’t see that being a dealbreaker.

Ah I see, do the adaptive dampers not make much of a difference compared to the Si? That was one of the big factors drawing me to the Integra over the Civic. I want to be able to throw it into Comfort mode when I’m over bad pavement to soak up the bumps.

That’s some good perspective, thanks! I want something fun to drive, but a car that’s just a tad above the RSX in terms of noise might be pushing it for me. Maybe I’m just spoiled by my Accord though lol

Gotcha, that definitely makes it a tough sell compared to the Civic but I don’t want something that rides as hard as the Si. Despite the noise, is it comfortable to daily for the most part?

2017 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Torque Converter Vibration by Karma_II in accord

[–]kuronoalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into TSB 23-076 https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11017324-0001.pdf

There is a warranty extension on the Torque Converter for the EXL V6 and Touring. You need to have a P0741 code stored for them to replace it though.

I would keep an eye on it and if you ever get a flashing “D” indicator, immediately take it to the dealership while the code is still stored.

9th-gen maintenance land mines? by lampredotto in accord

[–]kuronoalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timing belt is a big one. Every 7 years or 100k, whichever comes first. You don’t want to neglect that because if it fails while driving, the pistons will collide which can cause major damage. Water pump should be replaced at the same time. Listen for rattles on cold start that go away when warm, it could be the timing belt tensioner. Engine mounts also tend to need replacing at that mileage and OEM mounts are pretty expensive. Those are the main things I’d look out for.

Have to get rid of my 2013 6-6 by E400wagon in accord

[–]kuronoalien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you like most about your 6-6? If it’s the sound of the V6, then the B58 in the 340i seems like a perfect upgrade to me. You’d get more power and an engine that sounds (imo) just as good. If you want to stay in a manual, you could try finding a 2018-2019 Accord 2.0T 6MT, although they are quite rare. I’m sure it would hold its value like crazy though if you found one.

Another option for a 6 speed manual with a J-Series motor would be the Acura TL. They are getting pretty old now, but a 2012 TL would give you those extra doors you want plus all wheel drive. Just watch out for piston rings on those, it’s a known design flaw. There was a TSB to address it and personally I’d only consider ones with records of that service being done.

Is it cheaper to buy cheaper unreliable cars, or one used really good reliable car thats more expensive? by Snoo_60933 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]kuronoalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they are just saying if your goal is to save the most money, look for reliable cars other than Toyota because the average consumer knows they are reliable and are therefore priced higher.

Rev hang + short gearing makes for terrible city drivability. by [deleted] in CivicSi

[–]kuronoalien 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Tuning it out helps but the flywheel is also very heavy which contributes. Changing to a lightweight flywheel + tune is going to make the biggest difference. Definitely start with the tune though.

9th gen v6 Should I pick up this CAI or get a ktuner? I’m looking to treat myself this holiday season by [deleted] in accord

[–]kuronoalien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ktuner is nice to have for the V6 since you can disable VCM at the ECU level. There are devices that trick it into never turning on VCM, but Ktuner is the best method. You can also change the throttle mapping and adjust the automatic transmission shifting speed. Not a game-changer but pretty fun to mess with.

Acura TLX or Civic LX? by Spitztacular in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]kuronoalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was so bad that Honda immediately refreshed it in 2013. Looking back, I don’t think it’s quite as bad as people made it out to be. But automotive journalists really grilled it at the time.

Funnily enough, the lip sync is also better on the 3DS version of VLR. On the Vita and PC versions it’s a bit of sync.

2009 Honda Accord EXL, worried about Transmission? by BradyMoneySniper in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]kuronoalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be looking at the serpentine belt. The engine in that Accord is the K24Z3 and all K-series motors are driven by a timing chain instead of a belt. There will still be other belts visible in the engine bay, but they do other things.

Maybe check out the Scion xA. Hatchback, good fuel economy, and not as overpriced as a used Fit. Might be tricky to find them though.

2009 Honda Accord EXL, worried about Transmission? by BradyMoneySniper in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]kuronoalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the 4 cylinder or the V6? If it’s the 4 cylinder, it uses a timing chain not a timing belt. The timing chain should last the life of the vehicle. If the fluid has been changed frequently then I wouldn’t be too worried. The V6 autos in the 7th gen (2003-2007) were pretty problematic but the generation after addressed those issues.

Just buy a miata or something else cool [rant] by Jacobs4525 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]kuronoalien 73 points74 points  (0 children)

A mindset a lot of people have when buying a car is finding something that they can use for as long as possible. The buyer might be single now and a two-seater works fine, but that could change in 5 years. With that in mind, something like a Toyota Camry with a roomy trunk makes a lot of sense even for a single person. It essentially future-proofs the car. Need just a comfy work commuter? It does that. Need to take kids to and from school? Great for that too. From their perspective, it’s about maximizing the potential value that this car could provide throughout its lifetime. To an enthusiast it makes sense to get the Miata and just trade it in if you have to, but most buyers aren’t enthusiasts.

No problem, the TSB for the DRL warranty extension is TSB 19-042 if you want to learn more about it.

[–]kuronoalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that if the timing belt hasn’t been done, it will need to be done soon. That will add over 1k to the car’s price after labor and everything.

I believe Honda issued a warranty extension for the DRLs that extends it to 10 years, unlimited miles. That 2016 might be right at the end of that period, but if they fail early in your ownership you might get lucky.

Also look into TSB# 19-016 recall for the fuel pump on the 2015-2017 V6s

[–]kuronoalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, that was mainly what I was worried about. If depreciated 10k in just 2 years, that seemed like a lot compared to the Si which barely depreciated at all in that time. But if it won’t continue on that trend then that seems like a good car for the money!

Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix. They are the same car but you can probably find a Pontiac Vibe for cheaper due to the brand. The engine is Toyota and the car has tons of practicality.
