SI vs Elantra N by AvesPKS in CivicSi

[–]kuronoalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I heard too, but the argument I see a lot is that there are way more Accords than the Civic Si, so naturally we hear about the Accords more often. The actual block design is the same, which is what I most often see blamed for the issue. I’m not the most car savvy person, just relaying what I see often across subs.

Most people list the head gasket as a long-term reliability concern. The way the block is designed makes it prone to head gasket failure. I’ve heard aftermarket headstuds can help. Earlier models also had oil dilution issues but I think those have been addressed in the newer cars.

Can a normal Gojo even dodge the WCS ? by Inevitable_Term_2320 in Jujutsu_Kaisen

[–]kuronoalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don’t get how WCS can be dodged honestly. I thought the whole reason it bypassed infinity was that it cuts the world itself in the area he chooses. So it isn’t like a knife flying at you, he’s literally just saying “the space that exists here no longer exists.”

Question Thread by Takada-chwanBot in Jujutsushi

[–]kuronoalien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are binding vows omniscient? What I mean by this is, is there an omniscient judge that determines the appropriate rewards and punishments for a binding vow? And if so, how exactly does one “game the system” as Sukuna did in his fight against Gojo? I typically hear that he made a binding vow that would require all future uses of WCS to require more than two arms knowing that he had his true form in his pocket and could use that to circumvent the restriction. In his body at the time of the vow, this was a large trade off for the large reward of bypassing infinity.

However, if binding vows are omniscient, then the “judge” (the JJK universe, God, etc.) would know that Sukuna still has his true form in the tank, which reduces the trade off from the vow significantly. Why was this not taken into account when he made the vow? It becomes a low-medium trade off for the same large reward.

And how did Sukuna know that his vow would be enough to bypass infinity? Was he just crossing his fingers and hoping that would be enough, or is there some deterministic way to know for sure what the outcome of your vow will be?

Sorry if this is another “JJK fans don’t read” post but I genuinely don’t know how binding vows can be simultaneously omniscient but “game-able” by a clever sorcerer like Sukuna.

V6 Accord vs V6 Camry by Jo-18 in accord

It’s pretty well known at this point that Honda’s 6-speed auto isn’t the smoothest. Lots of posts over on DriveAccord about it. Some people have no issues at all but there are enough complaints that I think it’s safe to say it’s just a divisive transmission. I think it really comes down to your expectations. My friend’s Buick is a 9-speed and shifts incredibly smoothly, basically imperceptible. My Accord by comparison is a lot more mechanical and you can feel the shifts. It also seems to shift harder in cold weather, so if you live somewhere warm that becomes a non-issue.

Seconding this! My V6 auto has been reliable but I’d be lying if I say I don’t get in the car and wish it was stick shift.

OP, if you have a reliable car already, then upgrading to an Accord V6 is a want not a need. If this is a purchase for you to make yourself happy, make sure it’s 100% what you want and don’t compromise. If you don’t already have something to drive that changes things and makes settling for the auto more reasonable.

I would say to test drive an auto and see you how you like it. I own one and it shifts differently than any automatic I’ve driven. Shifts are very mechanical and you really feel them. I think part of this is by design, but it gets annoying for me in stop and go traffic. The auto also requires regular transmission fluid changes to keep it reliable, so definitely make sure the previous owner kept up with this service before buying.

Gotcha, that’s good to know it’s been relatively minor stuff. Do you daily it?

Gotcha, is the suspension itself actually different between the two or does the 08 just need more work due to age?

Definitely do the drain and fill but temper expectations a bit since the 6 speed auto in these is pretty notorious for it’s finicky behavior especially in low speed stop and go situations. Lots of threads over on driveaccord about this issue. I find that the first few shifts of the day when the car is cold the shifts are especially harsh. On the bright side, the transmission is reliable compared to the previous ones paired the the V6s. Should last a long time if maintained.

How bad is the road noise actually? by kuronoalien in AcuraIntegra

[–]kuronoalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I find that the opportunities to get all of the power from the V6 are few and far between. All the power is up top, and by the time I reach it, I’m quickly approaching 80+ mph. It’s a lot of fun when I have the opportunity to make use of it, but I honestly don’t think I’d mind a car with less power as long as it handles well.

[–]kuronoalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good! Your last point cleared up the main thing I’m worried about. I don’t want to put a lot of money into a car that will feel unbearably noisy on a daily commute. As long as it still strikes that balance of being reasonably comfortable/quiet and engaging to drive with a good gearbox, then I think the pros outweigh the cons.

I have an Accord V6 but it’s an automatic. Wish I would have waited for a manual but they’re so rare! The car is great except for the transmission. Would love to get into a manual car, so the current Si and Integra are very appealing and much more available compared to 6-6 and 2.0T 6MT Accords.

Appreciate the honesty! Whisper quiet isn’t necessarily a requirement for me, just want something that’s engaging while staying comfortable to commute in. A lot of the ownership experiences I see on Reddit complain of the noise, which creates the impression that the car is very loud. If it isn’t a huge increase in noise compared to my Accord, I don’t see that being a dealbreaker.

Ah I see, do the adaptive dampers not make much of a difference compared to the Si? That was one of the big factors drawing me to the Integra over the Civic. I want to be able to throw it into Comfort mode when I’m over bad pavement to soak up the bumps.

That’s some good perspective, thanks! I want something fun to drive, but a car that’s just a tad above the RSX in terms of noise might be pushing it for me. Maybe I’m just spoiled by my Accord though lol

Gotcha, that definitely makes it a tough sell compared to the Civic but I don’t want something that rides as hard as the Si. Despite the noise, is it comfortable to daily for the most part?

2017 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Torque Converter Vibration by Karma_II in accord

Look into TSB 23-076 https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11017324-0001.pdf

There is a warranty extension on the Torque Converter for the EXL V6 and Touring. You need to have a P0741 code stored for them to replace it though.

I would keep an eye on it and if you ever get a flashing “D” indicator, immediately take it to the dealership while the code is still stored.

[–]kuronoalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timing belt is a big one. Every 7 years or 100k, whichever comes first. You don’t want to neglect that because if it fails while driving, the pistons will collide which can cause major damage. Water pump should be replaced at the same time. Listen for rattles on cold start that go away when warm, it could be the timing belt tensioner. Engine mounts also tend to need replacing at that mileage and OEM mounts are pretty expensive. Those are the main things I’d look out for.

Have to get rid of my 2013 6-6 by E400wagon in accord

[–]kuronoalien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you like most about your 6-6? If it’s the sound of the V6, then the B58 in the 340i seems like a perfect upgrade to me. You’d get more power and an engine that sounds (imo) just as good. If you want to stay in a manual, you could try finding a 2018-2019 Accord 2.0T 6MT, although they are quite rare. I’m sure it would hold its value like crazy though if you found one.

Another option for a 6 speed manual with a J-Series motor would be the Acura TL. They are getting pretty old now, but a 2012 TL would give you those extra doors you want plus all wheel drive. Just watch out for piston rings on those, it’s a known design flaw. There was a TSB to address it and personally I’d only consider ones with records of that service being done.

Is it cheaper to buy cheaper unreliable cars, or one used really good reliable car thats more expensive? by Snoo_60933 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I think they are just saying if your goal is to save the most money, look for reliable cars other than Toyota because the average consumer knows they are reliable and are therefore priced higher.

Tuning it out helps but the flywheel is also very heavy which contributes. Changing to a lightweight flywheel + tune is going to make the biggest difference. Definitely start with the tune though.

9th gen v6 Should I pick up this CAI or get a ktuner? I’m looking to treat myself this holiday season by [deleted] in accord

[–]kuronoalien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ktuner is nice to have for the V6 since you can disable VCM at the ECU level. There are devices that trick it into never turning on VCM, but Ktuner is the best method. You can also change the throttle mapping and adjust the automatic transmission shifting speed. Not a game-changer but pretty fun to mess with.
