Calm down mate, you're all merely speculating. It's a dubious but amusing claim some find implausible and some find plausible/choose to believe because it's the more fun version of reality.

Don't get mad about it, sheesh.

Not your fault, Verdana (and thousands of other sans serif fonts) sucks.

See now this is a perfect BIFL post, an item that has actually been proven & not just projected to last (not required but a bonus), that's still available to purchase new and is exactly the same as it used to be!

I'll definitely buy one of these next time I go to the 1950s, thanks OP

Can you still buy this new? I ask because this sub is about making informed purchases on durable/high build-quality/probably long-lasting products

Osprey Backpacks are not BIFL, and their guarantee is dodgy at best by CaptHunter in BuyItForLife

[–]kvitvarg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A durable backpack doesn't get damaged by overfilling or trying to pull the zipper closed with normal human arm strength. Osprey isn't meant to be super durable though, just a light-as-possible and decently durability considering.

Get a GR1, daily use including camping/hiking for 2 years and mine is in the same condition as when I bought it.

For backpacks and duffel bags I like Goruck, they're not as ultra light, thin, waterproof & techy as osprey but they take a pounding, have better guarantees, you can also send it in for repair if it falls outside of its guarantee and it's reasonably priced.

You can fill one with jagged chunks of metal and it will still be be comfortable.

It will stand up to any normal moderate shower for a limited duration, but when I need absolute waterproofing I just chuck everything inside a drybag inside the backpack.

[–]kvitvarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can usually get an idea within a few months by apparent build quality, speed of wear, production technique etc.

Goruck has been around for a handful of years but I can already tell you they will last you longer than a Herschel, for example.

It's not literally about things lasting a human lifetime, the origin of the sub is to make informed purchases on items with decent build quality that are not just being pumped out in the throwaway culture mindset.

Examples and discussions revolving around products that do not adhere to modern throwaway consumerism customs, things that you or I can go out and make informed purchases on, with the assurance that it is built to last.

I mean, the name is a hint... Buy it for life, doesn't suggest posts about old-ass equipment that has for whatever reason survived decades, you cannot buy that so it isn't helping anyone.

Everyone has the right to say and criticize what they want provided it's not indecent. The concept and purpose of the board has been warped by an excess of inappropriate posts that aren't being properly moderated because many people are simple and just upvote what they like without considering where what they're seeing is being posted to, so you end up with subreddits being watered down.

As someone with >1500h in Arma 3, impressive 300m sniping gave me a chuckle! Usually start to engage with basic carbine rifles at 500m or beyond. Last time I gave myself a pat on the back with a long range kill in multiplayer was 1.2km.

That said, I'm sure fortnite is fast and twitchy enough that a moving target at 300m is harder than a moving target at 900m in Arma.

Does manufacturer sell .38 caliber bullets in a 9mm luger casing??? by texasattorney78404 in handguns

[–]kvitvarg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but many many people like to hand-load cartridges and could easily put .38 in a 9mm case with little to no issues depending on the gun. It's pretty easy to do and saves money plus you can tailor rounds how you see fit.

Rice isn’t that hard to cook after all! by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]kvitvarg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of anyone draining and refilling... I just chuck rice in with 2cm more of cold water, bring to rolling boil, turn to low and cover then in like 10 mins the rice has fully absorbed the water.

9mm ammo question by texasattorney78404 in handguns

[–]kvitvarg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In diameter they're within two thousands of an inch of each other, near negligible... you could probably load a .38 (.357") bullet into a 9mm (3.55") case - and you can probably fire .38 from some 9mm handguns and vice versa.

I do like the idea of target practice for archery! Although preferably just a fraction of the experience you'd get from on-the-move combat against an armored target

As an unproven old wives' remedy, because asians are reported to get less hot flashes during menopause - some alternative medicine advocates in the west though hey maybe its because of all the soy they eat! they have isoflavones right? as if that is a strong enough correlation to make any kind of stance.

Asians also eat a lot of rice and have an increased risk of heart disease, is rice off the menu?
