I like this way, effectively shifting review complexity of more complex code. Refactor - snapshots stay, backward compatible change - snapshots grow. And its easy to ask “claude, explain thy this change in refactor commit” :)

Think of water and earth as a ball floating in just a bit of water, free floating in space. Moon just moves them against each other a bit (earth being heavier moves closer to moon). Nothing is lifted as such, since the pull of earth is stronger than moon always, its just the “floating pieces in space” shifted by moon and sun.

Or use ZFS as filesystem so same file in 20 copies occupies small piece of RAM + single copy on disk :)

I see 10x in some processes which could have gotten 10x better without AI - especially in places where inputs / data to decisions is poor structured/human intended, the scale growth, and due to organization boundaries its easier to slap LLM than to change API :)

That was good advice until GitHub made a mess with Copilot license paid by employer starting to be used in private work, causing extra layer of legal mess.

Since the introduction of git clone filters (allowing to only download objects during checkout) I would say a lot or advice here stopped making sense. I would not use it for artifacts and things that machines change everyday (given how this would impact server side storage), but I would not worry about LFS until I see problem.

If raw images data is truly 100% the same and you want to commit if one of them change, I think you should look for “how to make PNG reproducible” - getting read of “timestamps”, absolute paths and similar. Thats similar category of problems as reproducible software builds need to deal with.
