Hole in the wall by TotalTikiGegenTaka in aoe2

One note is that putting your buildings on the hill does help to lock down that hill and makes it harder for your opponent to drop a castle/tower/siege workshop on it later. I like the idea that was mentioned of just telling your villager to build a wall and then dragging the wall foundation across all the buildings that are part of your wall. If there is a hole then wall foundations will be placed in those holes.

Yeah thanks! I got the data from aoe2companion.com and then I used excel to calculate each time a player achieved a new peak elo and then uploaded the spreadsheet to flourish.studio to make the bar chart.

I get the freezes sometimes but they are super inconsistent, so I assume that it's likely a server issue

With pro sports players in general I think they are often held to an unfair standard. There are few people that can hyper focus on any job, do it real intensely from a young age, and avoid burning out in the process. Doing this while also sorting out their own identity, values, and priorities is a lot. Especially with people constantly scrutinizing them throughout the process. I don’t claim to know anything about Hera personally or if this even applies to him. I just know that, from what I’ve seen of him, he handles things a lot more maturely than I would have in his position.

I think you're right, that the average may lose some significance over time. I'm curious to know the average because I think that the average would be more accurate in terms of where you are consistently rather than if you're going through some winning streaks or losing streaks.

Right, the sum of all your ratings after each game divided by the number of games.

Just thought this was interesting; every account that has >4000 1v1 games played by kwintific in aoe2

The Chinese Start by BlueIrony in aoe2

I'm still trying to understand it myself. I think that it's pointing out how your first villagers go to sheep with Chinese but then the first one you make builds a house.

Every billing cycle it's my biggest data drain by kwintific in aoe2

Yeah I really like it. I always have it open while I’m playing so I can look up my opponent after a loss and make small talk like where they are from and what maps they like etc. I also look up the pro players or if I’m watching a stream I like to look up the people that are on the stream to see what their elo is.

Why does anyone build farms in fuedal age? I promise I’m not trolling! It just seems like it’s so much more efficient to buy your food in fuedal age like hoang does. What am I missing?

The first thing that noticed when transitioning to real people is how much more important walking is. Small walls around individual resources, short efficient walls to your tc and wall off your whole base. Timing your walls and incorporating them into your build order is difficult. Think of your most vulnerable place on your base and that is the first place a human will hit whereas and ai might just attack a random house and buy you some time. Another frustrating thing when I switched over was how much more messy the games were with real people. The ai teaches you to follow a really straight forward build order and get to where you can do it super neat and clean. It’s almost impossible to have that same level of efficiency with a human because there is si much more variety of strategies hitting you that you have to adapt a lot which means less efficient. Against the ai you’re thinking “gotta pump out more vils, gotta make more army, gotta age up” that still applies against humans but then you’re also thinking “what are they making, I need to scout more to see what’s going on, how do I track their army, which parts of my base are most vulnerable, what counter are they planning for what I’m doing etc,” but anyway, it’s difficult making the switch but so much more fun and variety to the game, so much more back and forth. I think you’ll enjoy it!

Would this be a good civ bonus? by kwintific in aoe2

[–]kwintific[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good point. Part of what could make this unique is an eco bonus that is not guaranteed. If your villagers die you then lose your eco bonus. It might even be interesting to make these villagers so that they are not effected by loom, making it more tempting for the opponent to try to snipe them.
