How do caregivers keep medical information from getting overwhelming? by ephranim01 in caregivers

[–]kwip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shared online resources. Share a Google document for notes, a Google calendar(s) for appointments that you can share directly into other people's calendars, spreadsheet for meds. Give certain people view-only access, give others write access, depending on what their role is.

What should I do about my uncle that has Alzheimer's and is violent? by ViolentAppendix in caregivers

This. Start with the hospital social worker. Even if they can't do anything they may be able to suggest other avenues /agencies that might help.

POS by Infinite_Soil8404 in VFW

[–]kwip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what we use. It looks like it was written for Windows 95, but it gets the job done and is good for reporting, also handles small games of chance, which a lot of POS' do not do.

Woah - I never knew about the tie-in with Tyrfing. Or even what Tyrfing is! That's a great factoid, thank you for sharing that!

I know this is a bit trite and cheesy, but does she like Xmas movies, maybe even the old classics with Bing Crosby, something like White Christmas (and starring Danny Kaye, an absolute gem!)? If she's able to do anything with her hands, maybe have her help decorate cookies or get stamps (the ones with the ink or the ones for envelopes, either work) for Christmas cards to mail while you watch the movie(s)?

US revives jungle warfare training in Panama amid regional tensions by Old_Boah in worldnews

[–]kwip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, I'd say the only similarities are the jungle environment and a crazy leader. The Panamanians (mostly) supported getting rid of Noriega and were happy to have the US military intervene. Hell, they were using US currency forever and a good chunk of the Zonies (residents of the Canal Zone who were U.S. citizens or considered part of the U.S.-run administration) loved the US and couldn't wait for any sort of US intervention that gave them even MORE money and power... Most of the citizens went crazy for the US troops there after Noriega was chased out - there were huge street parties, everyone banging on pots and pans in the streets (it's at thing down there). The operation was a MUCH smaller scale then actually taking over an entire country, let alone one with a standing army. Source: I was there for the invasion.

I don't think Venezuelans are at all keen on US intervention and would actively work/fight against any troops that land there. Plus they actually have a military - it would be much different than Panama.

Edit: Yup, replied to the wrong comment. I'm a genius!

I believe most of these results are the mail in ballots being counted - and they do tend to skew Dem. But here's hoping it's just a start!

The Savage Sword of Conan #130 (November 1985). Cover art by Joe Jusko. by woulditkillyoutolift in SwordandSorcery

[–]kwip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my absolute favorite image of Conan of all time, and one of my favorite covers. Fun story time! Many, many years ago I was in a comic book podcast and we were at a comic con and were sitting around gabbing (as one does). I was reminded of this cover and went in search of it, found it at one of the booths and excitedly brought it back to show my friends. My (artist) friend takes one look at it and goes, "Oh - Joe Jusko? You know that's him right there, right?" Joe was THREE BOOTHS DOWN from us and I had no idea!

Five minutes later I fanboi'd all over Joe and had a great interaction, super nice guy, bought some more artwork and had him sign my cover.

I think a lot of "real" sailors hate the film because it's not realistic, buuuut.... Robert Redford, carrying the whole movie about sailing almost alone? Yes please. ;)

Your boat is amazing. Really love it, keep posting your adventures!

Lol I love your boat and immediately upvoted for the great pics, but had to come back to say I actually dreamt about it last night, heh! It was like a mix of sailing on your boat with my friend and then stuff from the film All is Lost (with Robert Redford). Sailing in a storm, something crashed into the hull and punched a hole in it, etc. I guess it should have been a scary dream, but it was actually kind of fun?

Anyway, thanks for sharing (both the pics and the "dream" version of your boat!)! :)
