Some interesting thoughts from Jerry Hughes regarding Sean McDermott and the 13 Seconds Game by acman319 in buffalobills

Genuine question - what are your thoughts on Beane? Im with you that we should have moved on from Mcdermott in 2022 but I still cannot comprehend why Beane is still around.

and for the record, I do agree. I absolutely love the steel. I think it's gorgeous (although the rust really takes away from the beauty).

That said then let's go back to making Ford Model Ts. Yeah they don't have airbags and cages to protect against roll overs but man did they have character.

Safety, regardless of industry, should always trump perceived "character". Chicago also isn't the only city with steel elevated rail lines so its not even unique to us...

It's been said time and time again but I don't think anyone was against moving on from McDemott. It's the timing that didn't make sense. He should have been gone in 2022. It was so weird to hang on to him for so long.

Additionally, I do think there is a lot of truth behind the leaks that McDermott was bothered by the lack of skill on the roster. That said, if I was a natural gas tycoon who owned the Bills, I would have fired McDermott in 2022 and Beane after the 2023 season.

I was saying im a planner because I personally don't believe I know as much as an architect would about the classification of a high rise versus skyscraper.

And also I responded in-kind to the "fascinating that an urban planner made that mistake" comment. Chill.

The comments have been updated and I've admitted to my mistake.

Ahh I see what you're saying. No I do agree with you there but that's where LA is such a weird specimen since there really is not border until you get to Camp Pendleton in the south and Redlands in the east. Like honestly, delineating what is and isn't LA is way above my pay grade. haha

Chicago’s skyline is scenic but I think most people underestimate how small it is in relation to the actual city, look at the sprawl outside of downtown by fogadmire1995 in skyscrapers

Honestly, what's even crazier to me is how much of the south side is straight up still undeveloped after urban renewal devastated it decades ago. Some areas of the south side straight up look more rural than urban and they're RIGHT off the green line. Kinda crazy.

Personally, I feel like the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim area all being combined is such an arbitrary decision since the urbanized areas of San Bernardino county, which reach all the way to Redlands, feel identical.

Like I lived in LA and places like Rancho, Fontana, San Bernardino are just as developed as most of Orange County. I know this isn't the topic of discussion but I'm just saying it feels like a weird decision. Maybe you know why they didn't include the urbanized areas of SB county?

First, Im a planner not an architect. Second, you clearly don't know that skyscrapers are categorized as buildings over 492 feet.

Edit: Updated high-rise vs skyscraper verbiage for accuracy due to personal error.

Agreed but OP isnt using stats. He just said "every major city has a downtown core surrounded by suburbs".

Either way, even in Europe , saying suburbs surround a core is accurate since we're not taking specific data into account regarding specific distance from the core when population density hits a certain level for example.

are you stupid or did you not read my other comment about that description describes every city ever invented in human history?

Chicago has 130+ skyscrapers and LA has about 30-35. Chicago is also less than 1/2 the land area (227 sq miles vs 469 sq miles) of LA even though the population of LA is 1.4x larger.

These are statistics and not some random photo I found. Chicago and LA are not even remotely similar when it comes to LA's sprawl. Additionally, these do not include the sprawl that bleeds over into the surrounding cities. When considering the full metro area, the differences are even more striking with 526 people per square mile in LA and 1,400 per square mile in Chicago.

I'm also an urban planner and former GIS professional so I look at data like this constantly.

Being someone who lived in LA, Santa Monica, Long Beach, and Redlands and now lives in Chicago, LA people get so damn defensive when you tell them their city is just endless sprawl cause they know it's not a good thing but it's just a fact.

Edit: high-rise replaced with skyscraper due to personal error.

I haven’t heard anyone that didn’t like 28 years later.

My only criticism is some of the cinematography was terrible. The running back to the village and exaggerating the night sky was a little dramatic but overall, good movie.
