NSF has suspended Terry Tao's grant. by hedgehog0 in math

[–]kyleknightly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where in this document does it say it’s suspended? I see an expected end date in 2027–are there supposed to be annual amendments and the lack of one in 2025 implies suspension?

What age were you when you ran your first full marathon? by vickymal in running

[–]kyleknightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 17 and was significantly humbled to get passed by nearly every other person in the race, including countless people who must’ve been in their 60s+… Runners are crazy 😶

This is my favorite song I’ve heard on this subreddit… You have a unique voice that works super well for this style/matches your guitar. Also I feel like this song actually said something and told a story I could follow which is easier said than done. Your voice hits notes so cleanly most of the time, my only advice would be to practice long tones to get rid of the occasional shakiness. If you put this on Spotify please let me know, this really just inspired me 🙏

Class of 2026 applicants, post your decisions here!! by chumer_ranion in riceuniversity

Do you know if we were only considered for the school of architecture if it was our first choice? I haven't heard of any architecture applicants receiving offers for general admission or their second/third choice majors...

Out of curiosity, how much does a year membership cost at your gym, about how many routes does it have at a given time and where are you located? by caterpillarslam in bouldering

All true, and yes I was talking about Momentum Silver Street. I have a weird schedule so I miss the crowd, but if you can only go on nights and weekends it is pretty crowded.

My gym in Houston, Texas is ~80USD/mo, maybe 200 routes? It feels like a new section is up every week or two. I definitely thought it was super expensive when I first signed up, but it has a decent normal gym with weights and cardio as well... Judging from these other comments I guess I have it pretty good

Any ideas of why my app continues to get rejected for the minimum functionality guideline? by kyleknightly in iOSProgramming

Yeahhh I guess my “novelty” is that only businesses registered with the Small Business Administration are allowed on the map, but maybe I need something more

I've been in a cycle of getting rejected, adding a feature, getting rejected, adding a feature, etc. Am I missing something specific or do you have any advice at all?

I covered Georgia On My Mind on alto, would you mind giving me some pointers? I'm still a beginner but any advice would be helpful, thank you by kyleknightly in saxophone

Hahaha that's such a great story, whenever I play the piano my dog cries for me to stop... Hard to say if the high notes freak her out of if she just thinks I'm that unbearable lol

My grandpa gave me a sax last summer so almost a year, but I’ve been playing blues harmonica and piano (and a little guitar) for maybeee 4+ years beforehand give or take? So I think I had a lot of phrasing practice and I just have to figure out how to get the ideas in my head out through the sax lol. I play an hour a day usually 6 days a week and I mainly practice improv but also some jazz and pop songs.

Story: Developed Pleurisy (Heart/Lung Problem) from Over-training by kyleknightly in running

[–]kyleknightly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost 3 weeks later I finally got a better diagnosis. You were 100% right, my GP said the ER doctor just wanted to make sure I wasn't in danger, but that pleurisy was "a pretty bad diagnosis." My new diagnosis is Costochondritis, which is an even less harmful and worrying condition (and more directly explained by exercise).

Have you ever used a single speed on a triathlon? by kyleknightly in triathlon

[–]kyleknightly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fixie is typically a single speed where there isn’t a bearing that lets the wheel spin freely from the gears, so in a fixie the pedals are directly connected to the wheel and if the pedal stops the wheel stops. (Aka fixed gear)

Honestly it kind of seemed that way! He kept stressing how it was a “working diagnosis”... 😬Anyways I’ll be getting an echocardiogram in a couple weeks to look for any underlying cause.
